Re: Look what I found
I’ve decided to sell this Pickwick rather than restoring it myself. I’ve just brought home a classic pinball machine that will take up all my efforts for the summer. What should I ask for it? Any advice gratefully received.

Re: Gottlieb Roto Pool 1958
That’s a lovely wood rail machine you have there and congrats on solving the start up problem. Do you know anything about where it has been for the past 60 years?

Re: Look what I found
Thank you gameswat. Yes it does appear to be complete, unmolested and original. I have been thinking carefully about cosmetic restoration and for the time being I’ll limit it to a gentle wipe with a soft cloth. The key is missing of course so currently the innards are only accessible from the back. ...

I brought this Pickwick home today. It appears to be complete and working apart from only having one ball. (I set up the jokes, you supply the punchlines).
More when I’ve examined it more carefully.

Re: Where was this arcade?
I was wondering if the phrase ‘take a shock and look pleasant’ wasn’t a claim that the electricity would improve your appearance. Rather it was a challenge to see if you could keep a cheerful face while you received the shock. ‘Look pleasant’ was a phrase often used by Victorian and Edwardian studio...

Re: Coin operated stereo viewers
I had them surgically adjusted years ago to be the same distance apart as the two lenses on my stereo viewers.
PS I also think this is a standard parlour table top viewer that has been adjusted to coin-operation.

Whales stereo viewer coin mech advice
Topic moved & merged - Site Admin. After the interesting discussion we had a few months ago about coin-op stereo viewers I’ve been prompted to get my coin op viewers out of the various cupboards and guest bedrooms where they have been languishing. I’ve resolved to get at least a couple of them ...

Re: Jubilee Riviera won’t stop spinning
An update and request for advice on next steps please. I’ve not been idle. Apart from earning a living I’ve been fiddling with the mech every day in the hope that either repeated firing would loosen a gummed up joint or I’d be able to see where the jamming is. I’ve also fired vast quantities of plus...

Re: Jubilee Riviera won’t stop spinning
Just a quick update, with not a lot to report. I’ve been continuing to fire the mechanism with mostly the same result BUT on two occasions it has spontaneously applied the brakes correctly and so completed the cycle. I wasn’t able to identify anything about those two successful cycles that was diffe...

Re: Jubilee Riviera won’t stop spinning
Thank you all for your very helpful advice. I began by looking for possible points where the mechanism could be binding. The only possibility I could identify was where the horizontal brake lever travels through the slot at the far left. There does seem to be contact between the lever and the lower ...

Re: Jubilee Riviera won’t stop spinning
Ah I see what you mean! I hadn’t spotted that brief moment of spinning before it stops. OK work clothes on again tomorrow and I’ll try to track it down. Thank you.

Re: Jubilee Riviera won’t stop spinning
OK. I’ve spent a happy hour in the back garden squirting copious amounts of Pro Gas releasing fluid in to the clock, governor and all the joints that seem implicated in the movement of the brake arm. I repeatedly triggered the mechanism to ensure I was reaching all the parts. No change. I then spray...

Re: Jubilee Riviera won’t stop spinning
Thank you very much BP. I will do as you suggest and report back (although possibly not by 8.30 tomorrow morning.)
Is there a useful ‘exploded diagram’ type thing somewhere that shows and labels all the parts of a machine? If not, what does a clock governor look like please?

Jubilee Riviera won’t stop spinning
I acquired this rather untidy machine from a friend in the pinball community. I collected it in the summer telling myself ‘that’ll make a nice project for the quiet winter months.’ Well spring is on the horizon and I still don’t have it working. The machine does most things correctly I think. It acc...
