Re: Bryans Worlborl

I have managed to get a bit more of the Worlborl done.
I said in an earlier post that I would have to make the operator plate in three sections; this is the first part completed.

Re: Fairground and or seaside music???

Hi Jeremy, Oh, to have H.G.Wells’s Time Machine and to go back in time to see some of these great Music Hall performers. With fourteen recordings your Granddad and his mate must have been a popular act, I would loved to have seen them on stage. True there are some clips available to watch on Youtube...

Re: Wonders allwin back plastic

I hate using Acrylic sheet as it cracks and splits at the first touch of a saw or drill; even if I use a pair of wood battens to sandwich it whilst cutting it still sometimes cracks a short while afterwards; very long cuts I find are impossible to make with a hand saw. I prefer to use polycarbonate ...

Re: Fairground and or seaside music???

Hi ClassicGambler, You say a ‘long time ago’ so if you are thinking about the mid 1800’s and early 1900’s people would have been interested in the star performers of that time, just as we are today so from that time I suggest the Music Hall would be the place to look. Many of the Music Hall performa...

Re: Waltonophone

Hi Chunny, I think working out the motor speed can be done with a mathematical calculation. It appears from the patent drawing that the drive to the turntable is by a rubber wheel (on the vertical rod with the three governor weights on it) that runs on the rear edge of the turntable. If so then you ...

Re: Bryans Worlborl

Thank you for the information, Mr.PM; your photo of the complete machine is very helpful. !THUMBS! It shows the pin positions below the ball release hole really well and this is something I had been pondering about for some while. It's such a shame when all the effort that goes into the works of a m...

Re: Bryans Worlborl

Thank you all for your kind comments. Yes, Mr PM, I’m very pleased with the way the Worlborl is progressing. The copies of the original Bryans graphics, which you posted in Resources, give it an air of authenticity which I would have had difficulty in reproducing successfully. Leatherette is still a...

Re: Walnuts for scratches

I've just tried this on a light wood table and it seems to work OK; the nut leaves an oily film in the scratch mark.
The only downside is that you can't eat the Walnut afterwards.

Re: Bryans Worlborl

Firstly, a belated reply with apologies for not replying sooner to BP. Many thanks BP for your appreciation of my efforts to build a Worlborl. :woops: The E type Jag, ‘lovely ol motor’, (as they say up ‘ere in Norfik) I worked on a few E's in my motor mechanicing days in the 60s and 70s including he...

Re: Close Up Pictures of Bryans Bullion

I found this on the Bryans Penny Arcade website. http://www.melright.com/bryans/index.htm The Bullion exists in old penny (1d) and new penny (1p) versions. The decimal version can be recognised by the five smaller coin entries, and white paper labels stuck over the '12's to convert them into '10's. ...

Re: Mills screw/bolt sizes

In my Zeus engineers data book these number sizes are listed as ANC and ANF threads not UNC / UNF threads. In America they are still listed as USS and SAE.

It may be worth a new search using the other notations.

Re: Mills screw/bolt sizes

Mills as well as Jennings used USS/SAE 5/40,6/32,8/32,10/24, 10/32 flat blade and carriage screws. Unfortunately the above screw sizes appear not to have any Metric or Imperial thread equivalents. The number sizes run down from 1/4”UNC or 1/4"UNF; #12 being just under 1/4" diameter down t...

Re: Who made this allwin?

It looks like part of the mech. comes from an Oliver Whales Treble Chance or similar Allwin where three payouts are made depending on which of the winning cups the ball lands in. See photos please. Re: Bryans Worlborl

Some years ago, back in the 1980s, I visited Jim Broderick’s ‘Star Warehouse’ where a Bryans Worlborl took my fancy but at £165 (I think) it was beyond my meagre budget. I still have a hankering to own a Worlborl as I like the two player action; it looks good fun to me. The Worlborl is a very simple...

Re: 6d and shilling thickness

I have just checked a few Queen Elizabeth headed coins. There is a slight difference between individual coins, but they are all around the following measurements: The shilling is 0.070" thick (1.80mm) and 0.926" dia (23.60mm) and the sixpence is 0.057" thick (1.5mm) and 0.762" di...
