It's not a slide across escalator.
Early ones merely held the coin just played (so it was visible to the operator) then on next play it moved across and rolled it down to the coin tube.
In your photo you can see the brass ramp from the back.

radiochrissie, isn´t the next best to chrome darkpurple metallic ? :!?!:
Pictures can lie, specially on chromed parts. The chrome was very poor on this machine and not an option to keep. Rechrome it would cost a fortune.

BP I think the escalator has been a slide across escalator before someone tampered with it. The frame is cut, teeth on the Coin Holding Bar & Coin Advance Bar are cut off. You can clearly see dirtmarks from coins placed in a row in the escalator (se pictures).

I have checked closer on the cointube and slides and there I was wrong. Cointube and slides are size for 25cents.

I really think that a 25cents slide across escalator with the coindrop in chape of a collar would work fine. Anyone who can sell one to me? !WORSHIPFULL!

That DOES appear to be an actual escalator, hacked about to operate like the common 'Shefras' roll-down escalator substitute.

Shame you couldn't get it re-chromed, but it does look good in purple. !!THUMBSX2!!

I wonder why the roll down conversion. Was done on difficult coins like 3D and big pennies, but 25C is a little odd. Also it is not original to the machine as either the whole thing or parts are Sega as seen with many serial numbers on.....

Have you checked it is actually 25c, the coin slides I mean

Treefrog, the machine has operated in Denmark with the coins 25 öre which is a bit smaller coins then 25 cents. Maybe the slide bars did not work right (wrong distance between the teeth) and they just cut the teeth to get it to work !PUZZLED!

Some more photos on the escalator with stamped numbers.

It just looks like one of the standard mods done by operators to address troublesome coin delivery and have smooth coin flow. It is a 25c one as all the spacers have 25 on them. I suspect the body is Mills and Sega parts added when rebuilt. Getting the bars with teeth on will be difficult, but if you are, or know someone with metal machining equipment, it could be made, or just look out for replacement complete item. US would be a better place to look. Try Dave Berten who does sell escalator parts and complete units and of course all US coinages. His website is down, but I understand emails still works and sells on US eBay.

It looks very classy and I could imagine it back in time attracting many people in a glitzy casino environment. The earlier comments about chrome, its not for everyone. You've taken something in bad shape and transformed it into something that would look good in a home. Ive had my fingers badly burned trying to have rechroming where most expense was in the preparation and polishing. Even parts buffed so much to get smooth surface they were just holed. So its a damn good job and i like it a lot. Well done to you sir !!CHEERS!!

These don’t come up for sale often, but two auctions in a row we had two at the Elephant, the red one made an incredible £3630 with commission   and the last auction the white one went for £1210..... perhaps the same two bidding were not there as previous auction or more likely I don’t believe the white one was right as the mech is in a Jewel case.

Searching this site and the internet, the variety of styles, one wonders how many out there are made up as are a some of the below. I thought these started in the Bell O Matic era onwards and maybe there would be two styles with the plastic wide award and the earlier smaller award.....
