Jubilee Rivieria restoration

Post by pennywise »

Hi guys,
Just finished the restoration on another Rivieria and wondering if there is any other way to chrome apart from wrapping. It looks 10 times better than it did as it was all painted over with a nasty grey and after blasting i could only salvage the cash draw, still not perfect but will do for the time being.
Only asking as I have another 1 to do with exactly the same nasty grey paint and wanted to look at other options if I have any.😁

The reason you see so many painted is the impractical element of rechroming. Only other attempt I have seen from wrap is spray chrome, which does not look great.

I think a good paint job looks fine. I am sure it was the Powell’s who did loads in the darker Hammerite finish, which see we lots of.

Hi TF,
I've only seen one painted before but didn't look that nice, I do have a hammered finish one which looks pretty good but do like the chrome work on these machines.
Looks like I will stick with the wrap then on the other one I have to do until some miracle chrome comes out that's cheap.🤣

The wrap I've got banditboy was from ebay. It's a bit orange-peely but I think does look better than a full paint job. The front pieces have been wrapped also, wanted to keep as much chrome as possible.

Bought one of those gold calligraphy pens to smarten up the gold on Riviera on mine, also going to get a fine point permanent marker for the black outline...

I've just bought a set of calligraphy to do mine with banditboy. Do they work as I have not used them on glass before? 🤔

Hi PW.
I had a quick go the other day at work where it’s slyly stored while doing a sneaky restoration..
Covered well, the one I had was similar to the Riviera Gold but I reckon it’ll need going over a few times...
Could also try artist's gold paint if you’ve a steady hand whilst using a brush.

Never tried silver leaf. If it's the same as gold leaf it could be an expensive way and long way of doing it. Least with the wrap it's quick - took about an hour to do the full machine and works out it cost me about 4 quid in wrap.😁

Thanks’ pw.
He gave me these two bits? Going by the pics of yours you kindly supplied I can’t see where they would go, and if at all they’re bandit parts?

They could be from the front at the sides of the pay window. You have four bits like that that separate the pay window where the reject coin comes from. If not from there I don't think they are from the Rivieria, unless been adapted if other bits are missing.
Put a pic of the front view of your machine and we will be able to tell. 👍
