Four pin starter for Jennings light ups

Post by clubconsoles »

Anyone know where I can get one of these? They don't seem to make them anymore, according to my local electrical wholesaler?
PLEASE NOTE- it is a larger 4 pin starter, a 2 pin will not even fit in the holder!

I have some, somewhere.
They are the later, discharge tube type, not the thermal ones, but they are a direct replacement.
I'll have a dig around tomorrow.

I wonder why 4 pins !PUZZLED! It says twin series - does this mean it can start two units?

The original 4-pin starter was thermal. Two opposite pins were for a small heater in series with the tube heaters, and the other two were for the bi-metallic strip which breaks the circuit to strike the tube.
The later ones are a direct plug-in replacement. The two 'break' contacts are bridged, and a neon discharge tube is placed across the other two.
This functions in the same way as in a modern two-pin starter, flashing the tubes until they strike. Harsh, compared to the precise start of the thermal type.
If you carefully bend back the tabs, you should be able to remove the can, and examine the contents. Soldering in a new neon tube (from a two-pin starter) in place of the defective one ought to fix things, assuming the fault IS with the starter in the first place!
I could always post you the example I have in front of me. There are no guarantees, but it was in use when I recovered it.

Hello
I am also looking for one of these if there are a few about. (Clubconsoles is first in the queue).
It's for a Bal Ami jukebox.
I am non-commercial, it's my own jukebox.
Thanks

First of all, a BIG thank you to "Brigham" for refusing to take any payment for the 4 pin starter he sent me, what a gent!

So my Eight ball special now LIGHT UPS YAY @&@
I was lucky enough to pick up the three Jennings from a local operator who passed away recently.
These saw service in Great Yarmouth's Brittania Pier after the war until they were withdrawn to the owners house in the late 60s?
So i am told by his son, at any rate.
These are keepers so are NOT FOR SALE
