Sega Mad Money actuator jumps out of location, ideas?

Post by marekb »

Hi all

My Sega Mad Money mostly works however a lever that appears to move the payout slides:

https://c.gmx.com/@558270522622739348/k ... TZi2P2taXQ
occasionally jumps out of its seating:

resulting in the machine not paying out.

Do you recognise the issue and have a suggestion for fixing it?

As a secondary question, are the fingers out of alignment?

If anyone can point me at a manual for the mechanics that would be much appreciated.
I can see the wiring diagram kindly provided in the resources section.

Thanks for you help.

Regards,
Marek

Looking from the rear of the mechanism where this lever goes through the back, it should be held down by a guide cover with two screws. Share a picture from the rear to confirm, if this is missing this lever will jump out

I was wondering if that reset bar has been put in backwards.
As it'll never reset the slides after a pay out, or has the bottom slide lost its vertical plate for the bar to push against?
You can see where the edge of the bar is grinding out the edge of the top slide. It shouldn't even be able to touch the slides.

Maybe they put the safety slide in the stack? Because the vertical plate is not high enough?

Thanks to each of you for your replies.

Here are views from the rear:

The bar appears to locate to the rear and also seems to rest well (i.e. not over-height) in its guide-channel at the front:

The slides, yes I wonder if it is something to do with the arrangement of the slides. How do you work out how they should be arranged?
This is how they are stacked to the rear.

Are the fingers positioned correctly, or should each one rest against a corresponding slide?

Every horizontal finger has a corresponding slide.

I come back to the fact that the errant lever is the only thing that resets all of the slides at the same time.
How that happens basically is the bottom slide has an upright plate attached at the back.
It's the same height as the whole stack.
When the lever pushes forward it makes contact with the upright plate and in turn pushes ALL of the slides forward, so they refill from the tube and also the horizontal fingers ALL click in behind ALL of the slides.

I don't think any of that is happening with yours.
If my dribblings don't make sense just shout at me.

Thank you BP,

That suggests the slides could be stacked incorrectly. One of the fingers is more than likely in the wrong place, and I need to take it all apart and rebuild. What else are kitchen tables for! !THUMBS!

Your post started regarding an issue with the slide reset bar lifting out away from the slide deck. The order of the slides would not affect this unless something was jamming the slides moving forward. Are they freely moving?

Also, from one of your pictures it looks like the master slide is too short and the top slide does not sit in the cradle.

Thank you treefrog

The slides were locked, from what I can make out mostly due to the top that screws down being screwed down too tightly.

After removing them, cleaning, replacing, and not screwing down the cover too tightly they now move freely.

The top slide still seems too tall for the cradle/cradle too short for all the slides. Is this usual?

After bending the fingers payouts happen (albeit a bit randomly, separate issue).

Thank you for your help.

As long as the cradle (master slide) holds back the slides above, if a little short it should not matter. If the top slide is not reset with the cradle, then it is too short. Your slides are unusual for a Sega machine. I assume it is 10 coin payout with 2 coin variation for each win with 5 slides.

With the slides now freely moving, is the reset bar still lifting?

Treefrog thank you, yes it is a 5 slide (picture before last).

The slides seem not perfectly flat, but then again it is ~50years old, possibly more.

This is the machine:

Next job is a proper clean.

Also, would be great to reinstate the jackpot if possible. Anyone have the parts list for the mech/linkages that attach to the main mech chassis?

I think you have the wrong slides, as your award is set for 3 slides of varying sizes. The slides your shared all look the same size, a very common setup for decimal conversions on machines like Aristocrats.

Jackpot parts are tough to get. You need the reset bar, the trip on top of the slide stack, the top slide needs the jackpot post and you need a slide top cover with reset bar mount. Of course you will need a jackpot unit as well. |/XX\|

Thanks treefrog
They don't appear to sit right however for the most part do appear to work (now, after the advice to remove, clean, and replace). Doubt will ever get originals without switching back to old money.

Thanks for the view on reinstating the jackpot, the mech in the case is there, but as you point out also need the linkages in the body to fire the jackpot. A restoration too far for now.

I'll close this thread now and post other questions in new threads.

Thank you everyone for your help.
