Retro 1950s slot machine stand on ebay
Now stop me if I'm wrong, but isn't this £250 "vintage retro '50s cabinet one arm bandit slot arcade amusement machine stand" actually an old kitchen cabinet worth about £10 if you're lucky?

Re: retro 1950's slot machine stand on ebay
Psst.... It's mine and has been on there about 6 months with various machines stood on top of it or next to it....and guess what..........most of them are sold, nudge nudge, wink wink,
My top tip is find any old piece of sh*t that you can describe as a stand and you will receive questions about what is on it.
Any proof needed? All the machines you can see in the listing are sold with the exception of the Buckingham and the Carfield (and I paid no ebay or paypal fees on any of them).
Yes the cabinet is a piece of crap I picked up at a local auction for £2 but it's worth it's weight in gold for advertising purposes.

I did think it might be the case and I did wonder if it was a forum member. I've seen similar ideas but none that seem to have worked so well. Very well done.

Genius
If it was priced at £10, nobody would click into the listing.
Must admit I did have a look a couple of days ago during a 'wtf?' Moment

The perfect crime
Expect one expensive stand coming from me. I have 8 one arm bandits to shift.

Interesting approach and good thinking.
My question is as you're not auctioning you clearly have prices in mind to tell collectors when they contact you.
So, why don't you put them on The Market on this site?

Re: retro 1950's slot machine stand on ebay
I have cleared out between 30 and 40 machines over the last 12 months or so and although some have been purchased by forum members they were all casual and rare visitors to the site. There have been three people new to the hobby who have bought 6 or 7 machines each and would not have seen them if not for the Ebay listings and several people have bought them simply for aesthetic reasons. None of these would necessarily have shifted in the "market place"badpenny wrote:

Weirdest? a completely non-working german wall machine that had been pillaged for spares, went to a woman in Belgium as a prop for a play she was producing.
If the question is why didn't I list them in the Market Place in addition to Ebay, I assume every member of this forum is a regular searcher on Ebay and other sites anyway.

Just got off eBay, very amused at the new auctions for new cabinets.

Old saying...."build a better mousetrap and the world will beat a path to your door"
I'd put money on more stands appearing over the weekend

Re: Retro 1950s slot machine stand on ebay
another but more specific ruse I have enjoyed success with is where I have Beromat, Duomat, Rotamat, Rotamints etc I list them under circus/fairground collectibles and have the words "coin-operated german arcade wall machine" in the title. Not as many hits as "slot machine stand" but good enough response and no hassle from the Ebay police.

Re: Retro 1950s slot machine stand on ebay
I'm not nagging but I really don't see why you lot aren't also plonking them on HERE as well .... not instead.
Re: Retro 1950s slot machine stand on ebay
Of course you could try auction and let them reach their price, especially as at the moment most of the time these are good....
Looks like a number of people are trying the same game...this is not new and people have being doing this for a long time, often having a pile of machines background soliciting callers to ask the question, trouble is most sellers know what they have and want too much for them anyway so I don't bother......
BP problem on this site, it still does not get the volume of people regularly viewing or taking seriously the sales sections. I was talking to a guy at the Elephant house auction who had just bought two giant wonders machines, obviously liked them and they fetch a good old price. I told him did he not come to this site, which he knew of but not regularly as the Kum Fishin Wonders allwin that was posted in the market for weeks for £500 did not get a twitch.....I don't understand it

It was me that you were talking to tree frog, if I had known I would have snapped your hand off for that allwin! Have you got any pics of it please?

I can't believe you didn't have a BITE on it, I haven't seen one of those before and would have loved it! Where did you say it went again? You did say but I was in abit of a tizwoz after getting both! Yes it's nice to put a name to the username, we must all talk to each other on here but haven't a clue who anyone is at the auctions!
Re: Retro 1950s slot machine stand on ebay
I still have the machine and two other Giant Wonders, a bright red Honest Joe and a Quick Returns
