Pace Comet on ebay
Anyone see this before it was removed by eBay ? It looks like a vendor but has no knob on the side, also the reel strips don’t look right. Can anyone tell me why a vendor would not have the side knob ?
Re: Pace comet on ebay
Is it possible the vendor components were removed by an operator? Presumably, the vendor ruse was not needed to circumvent gambling law in the UK? I suggest this because I have a Watling that was the subject of a Samson conversion and that has a dowel used to fill the hole left when the vendor handle was removed. I am afraid these old eyes are not good enough to see from your photo whether such evidence exists on that machine.
Re: Pace comet on ebay
Hi,Yes it was removed from ebay,i managed to buy it though and had a carrier collect.Lovely looking machine and like you said the vending knob has been removed but will go back on during resto.
Anyone got any more info or parts for this machine ??
Thanks.

I’m impressed, tried my best to get him to sell it to me but he never got back. Hope you got it for a good price, nice Christmas pressy!
Re: Pace comet on ebay
Paid 500 for it,seemed like a good price ? Does anyone know how it would of dispensed the mints and what triggers the jackpot windows ?

Re: Pace comet on ebay
Each play would have unlocked the missing knob. Turning that would dispense a roll of mints and then reset the lock until the next play.
Show us a photo of the inside of the case from the back to the front (with the mech removed) then we can tell you if the JP banks are genuine or merely for show.
Then show us a photo of the mech from the front, so we can point out the JP trips.
If you do that fairly quickly we should get them answered by next year.

Here are some pics. Many thanks for any more info.
Also wondered if the payout card can be reproduced as it's torn. What does the tiny little picture mean in the little window in between the payout cards above the lock?
Would the machine always have had the orange perspex windows? I would prefer to replace with clear etc.
Cheers.

Re: Pace comet on ebay
Oh Dear really? Does that also mean it won't operate the jackpot windows or can I adapt?
Re: Pace comet on ebay
Looks like a Pace mechanism to me, but I cannot help on the jackpot question though as I have only owned them without.

Re: Pace comet on ebay
I asked the seller to send me a pic of the inside without the mech, now I know why he/she didn’t get back to me.
The jackpot fill mech is missing and also the mech that allows the mint vendor to operate is missing. The double jackpot mech looks correct but I fear the parts on the main mech to operate it are not in situ.
Sorry if this is not what you wanted to hear, but I am afraid when you buy unseen this sometimes happens. Believe me I know.
Here is a similar machine with mint vendor. You can see what is missing:

I guess i need to know for sure what mech it is.Anyone got any more info ? The reels certainly dont match the payout card and all the other i have seen have white background to the reels.
The jackpot windows cant just be for show as they have mechs behind them.Just wondering in general what releases them, would it be everytime you hit the max award ie;3 bars ??

Hi Deano67
IMO it was a good buy at £500 but you may struggle to get spares to complete it in the UK.
I would try eBay.com always listing Pace spares in US.
They are harder to find than Mills/ Jennings but easier than Watling /Caille bandit spares.
I love Pace machines, I think they are very underrated!
It is a Pace mech but with the wrong reel Bundle as its a 10 stop bundle, that machine should be a 20 stop with white strips or number strips?
Would be nice to see a pic with the front vendor off so you can see if the magazines for the mint rolls are still there??
The part to trip the jackpot is there (see pic, circled in red)
This lever moves down when the top slide pulls in when you hit the 3 bars.
On Mills and Jennings the lever moves up.
does it have the original cashbox?
that alone is worth £50!!
Good luck with the Resto!

Re: Pace comet on ebay
Hi Nigel,
Thanks for the info, yes the cash box is still there, looks very original.
I cant get the front panel off yet as no key, tried all sorts of ways picking the lock etc but no luck, any other way to get the front off ?
I love the Pace machine too, very ornate !!
Thought the reels were wrong and should be white like you say according to all other pics i have seen.Ordered a manual from the US which will help i hope !
Cheers,
Dean.

Re: Pace comet on ebay
Hi Dean
Get a locksmith to get that front off 2 minute job those locks are not high security.
Do NOT be tempted to drill it out.
Get the nasty orange windows out and put in clear glass.
If the mint roll magazines are not there you could make a magazine to display mints in both columns.
Get some old fashioned wrappers and use wooden dowels.
It will make a huge difference on how the machine looks. That cast mint front is beautiful BTW.

He may well have a repro vendor bar and Knob as well as the correct award card you see on the above you tube clip.
Bantam mints are correct for this machine!

Re: Pace comet on ebay
Locksmith might be too expensive! I will have another go myself. Is it the sort of key you find on a garage door with parallel sides and slots or "stepped" like a Yale lock?
Yes, will def change those horrible orange windows!
Thanks for the Mr slot contact.

Re: Pace comet on ebay
Picked the lock and got front panel off today. No mint magazines inside but should be able to make my own.
Local key cutting shop has made a key for it.
Anyone got any spares for this machine? Jackpot filling mech is missing so I will need one or can always fill the jackpots manually for now.
