Re: Canova Drunkard's Dream identified

For what it's worth I think it's the same model. Just to be clear, that's what I meant when I said: Your machine appears to be the Blackpool example shown in Darren's book. This was in the Edwardian Seaside Fun Arcade at Blackpool Pleasure Beach. I don't know the current whereabouts of the other on...

Re: Old Penny Arcade in Bangor, N. Wales?

It's an exceptional location and very fine pier which has enjoyed better fortune than most of its contemporaries. Love the kiosks. The pier's website includes these evocative images:

You mentioned the Drunkard's Dream in your post. I believe the fellow you dealt with was famous designer Andrew Martin. Would be cool if you could track down those pics. |/XX\|

Re: Canova Drunkard's Dream identified

I love the zip file of photos, I will be in the shed if anyone needs me. !!THUMBSX2!! Well, there's enough there for someone with your skills to make something special. !THUMBS! Is it possible to say that Canova produced only 1 such model? Based upon my chat with sweetmeats, we suspect the one he s...

Re: Auction additional costs ...

I believe many new auction houses have opened shop over the last few decades (although I can't find a source to confirm this). Combined with the arrival of online auctions, that would mean they're each getting a smaller slice of the pie.

Re: Canova Drunkard's Dream identified

Some clarification from sweetmeats: old photos show that Cliff Mills worked on this machine, possibly in the 1980s or later. He may have touched up the artwork, added the top sign and medallion, and replaced a missing coin slot with a Bollands-style slot (Canova slot shown below), but otherwise the ...

Re: Canova Drunkard's Dream identified

This is a Canova case. The top is definitely not, nor is the medallion on the front. I understand the model above is not in the UK. The one depicted in Darren's book (below) was located at Edwardian Seaside Fun, Pleasure Beach, Blackpool when the picture was taken. It has the same medallion (the ma...
