NB, by 'leaf springs' I'm guessing BP means 'leaf switches'.

The Mermaid conversions were Duel Artillery - two-player games.

I wouldn't go with 'one old penny' because at the time, they weren't old. The original label would have been 'PENNIES ONLY'

Re: Punch and Judy Allwin - rough value?

I've been operating machines for not far short of 30 years, but have always considered myself to be first and foremost a collector. That said, I've bought many, many machines over the years with a view to operating, rather than them being particularly desirable, collectable machines.

Most impressive - you've clearly put a lot of work into that !THUMBS!
As others have suggested, it would be nice to see some of the nuts and bolts making it work!

Re: Fruite Whirle

Baloons' at 0:21 must be a rarity. Yes, although its rarity has just gone down by around 33%. I owned one for a good number of years, although I no longer have it. There are two collectors up north who have each owned one for many years, and as far as I am aware still have them, so that makes three...

Re: Can anyone ID this machine?

Yes, I think that's definitely one of Pete's. For many years I had one of his 'Over the Falls' machines, and there are too many similarities for it not to be.

Re: Quite a rare beasty - Mills Futurity

Many moons ago, I'm guessing 2006/7 I wrote quite a long piece about the Futurity for Mechanical Memories Magazine, specifically how it worked. If I get a chance over the next week or so, I'll have a chat with Mr P and perhaps we could post the article in the Arena, with some additional pictures - n...

Re: Quite a rare beasty - Mills Futurity

Very nice J, very nice indeed. Although I'm not really much of a bandit man, certainly not so much as I once was, the Futurity is one machine that I would love to own. And you say you just happened to arrive back with it when returning from Coventry? Well, I've been to Coventry on quite a few occasi...

Re: Confused Puppet Show?

Here's a couple of pictures of my Old King Cole, which I totally rebuilt around 15 years ago. Not great pictures, but may give you some ideas when rebuilding the case for your machine.

Re: Confused Puppet Show?

So do we know who produced the Sooty machines? And what about the Old King Cole machines? I've always thought they were all pretty horrendous, but my antipathy is beginning to soften.

Re: Bryans Hidden Treasure

I have been pondering these Roman numerals, and like others, have nothing to offer as to what they are or refer to, other than this: From the pictures we can see in this thread, they appear to be original - that is to say, they were stamped or scratched on at the same time as the serial numbers, rat...

Re: Worth a few bob!

So if the photo is 124 years old (or thereabouts) why would the machines have been confiscated? !PUZZLED! I did wonder when I first saw the picture at the start of this thread, why the machines would have been arranged in such a neat display. Surely, confiscated machines would have just been dumped ...

Works OK for me. I'm trying to decide whether that Dennison fortune teller was cheap-ish, even with the silly commission. Probably not the most desirable Dennison, but I would still have expected it to sell for a little more.

Re: Bryans Gapwin Project

I believe the term 'nob' is often directed at some types at the opposite end of the social scale.....just saying !!ESCAPE!! I'm pretty sure the one Elevenses I have left (I've owned many Elevenses and Fivewins over the years) has two thumb stops, one each side of the payout knob, which I always thou...
