Re: now this is a collection
The first one is a Cricket Mills Novelty Company Coin Drop Payout Gambling Machine see:
The second one next to it is probably a Caille "Cricket" similar coin drop payout gambling machine.

Re: A weight scale that could tell a tale or two
Both the scales are probably operated by either a coin op machine operator or scales etc. firm that has a number of such machines still on location. They would have a supply of blank cards and replace these when clearing the machine's coin box. These machines don't need to be "bought" or r...

Re: Exhibit Supply Co. Imperial Crane
A newly designed Novelty Merchantman was introduced by Exhibit Supply Company in 1935 as this advert of theirs in The Coin Machine Journal of July 1935 illustration etc stating it to be newly designed clearly shows. Somewhere I've got the design patent as well, but this ad came to hand first when I ...

Re: Wonders Ringla restoration help Victoria Australia
Ringlahelp pm'd me and I have sent a reply directly to her. I also suggested dd's toys as he is quite local to him and although I still work on machines occasionally, I don't do that much restoration work any more. I did suggest that it would help if he put some photos on the site and perhaps sugges...

Re: The advent of motors in pinball
Dear "SHE" I am delighted to learn that I am talking to SHE, what a stupid presumption for me to have made. I didn't think I had presented it like a prosecutor giving opening arguments to a judge but rather that I could back up my beliefs and memories by some documentation and memories of ...

Re: The advent of motors in pinball
Skipper pinballs were common in the "pinball parlours" (penny arcades) of my youth in 1940s Melbourne. Whilst there were sometimes some scary characters, the guys in the advertisement looked more like the policemen of the time who gave the owners of arcades a hard time.

Re: The advent of motors in pinball
cait001 is "pretty sure that Bumper does not award replays" and has "played 2 different copies and none had replays awarded anywhere." But that does not mean that they were conserved or restored correctly or that either current owner of these machines understood their operation f...

Re: The advent of motors
The illustrations accompanying my first posting show the payout mechanism from a Skipper. This is activated by what is unmistakeably a motor. Rocket would have had a similar motor driven payout system. The illustrations accompanying my second posting show the scoring system from a Skipper and Bumper...

Re: The advent of motors
Thanks Mr Pennymachines for resolving the correct date of the first use of a motor in a pinball machine. Rocket which showed the score on the playfield would have had a similar payout mechanism to Bumper and Skipper with a motor. Bally's Bumper and Skipper came out with coiled bumpers on the playfie...

Re: The advent of motors
Bally pin ball machines of the thirties used a motor in their payout unit. Skipper brought out in 1936/7 was the first to use this unit.

Re: Coin op Items in Collectables Auction in Australia
I learnt only recently of an excellent website relating to Cox's Gold Sovereign changers etc from Gameswat that would also interest Sweetmeats if he is not already aware of it: http://ftldesign.com/Cox/index.html Cox’s 1907 Gold Changer and 1890s Tills - FTL Design The British censuses of 1891 and 1...

Re: Coin op Items in Collectables Auction in Australia
Here's a link to the auction catalogue: https://hibid.com/catalog/162686/31st-march/?g=all-categories&cpage=3 That's where I got my photos from which is why they are such small files. I did photograph the Cox's tall model sovereign changer before from the owner. Who it was, I've forgotten as it ...

Coin op Items in Collectables Auction in Australia
Last Sunday a collectables auction, that contained quite a number of coin operated machines, was held in Wandin North, a country town about an hour’s drive from Melbourne. Most of the items were from one vendor and were bought by a floor bidder for quite interesting prices particularly for the 1930s...

Re: Buchanan 'The Australia' identified
I am not suggesting that they are exactly the same designs, but to me they seem to be the work of the same designer and are a reworking of material that he or she has previously used on the cash registers. Other people may not agree.

Re: Nutt & Muddle 'The Australia'
As Gameswat writes, these machines turn up regularly in Australia. One has turned up recently here in Victoria in quite good condition with playing cards for symbols. Some were beautifully plated in a Florentine Bronze finish. I'll attach a couple of photos of a Chicago Cash Register Company's cash ...

Re: Some K'Nex 'Slot' Machines
Absolutely stunning. Not only are the machines so ingeniously well made and work so well with the balls but the videos are also, with clear and well placed captions to make them easy to follow. I'm totally blown away by these, impressive work beyond belief. And nice to see the progression over the y...

Re: Reproduction Mutoscope reels?
Larry Bieza, who has done an enormous amount of research on the other coin op machines of the International Mutoscope Company as well as the Mutoscope is bringing out the book at some time in the future. It will include some of my material on the Mutoscope reel machines. My work on this ceased quite...

I have not previously contributed to this topic as I was interested to see what others might contribute describing their experiences. Gameswat has well described and illustrated the differences between the two reels available. A bit of personal history might provide some additional information of in...

This machine lacking parts of mechanism and cabinet has come up on ebay here item no 123545602887. Interesting in that it is an early Australian four reel poker machine.
