Re: Bran Tub swag boxes

Hi Brigham, yes there are 5 columns in the machine, 2 small (approx 2.5 x 2 x7/8") and 3 larger (3 x 2 x 5/8") and they vend in the order of L,S,S,L,L. Obviously clever old Mr Brian didn't want every consecutive prize to look the same, might give the game away. Interestingly chalked inside...

Bran Tub swag boxes

Hi,
I am thinking of restoring my old Bryans Bran Tub. Can anyone help me source the two sizes of cardboard swag boxes that it uses.
Thanks

Re: Genco Airport pinball restoration

I owned an Airport many years ago and, from memory, the device that sent the ball round may have been something like a slingshot, used behind the rubber rings either side of a modern pintable. I think that it was mounted underneath the track, with a hole for the actuating arm to poke through. I am f...

Re: Genco Airport pinball restoration

The device with the captive ball and five switches is an early form of score motor. The idea being that a ball is shot around the track by a solenoid when a certain feature is achieved. This then rolls over the switches, increasing the score by five units.

Re: Where was the Old Ha'penny arcade?

It was in Margate, on the old Sundeck, near the roundabout at the station end of the town.

My Misses used to love playing the Torpedo Run (Midway?) there.

In the past I have owned both of these. They seem to have been produced using surplus GPO uniselectors from the old electromechanical exchanges, plus a few relays. Rather like the Little Stockbroker, they are not random, they pay out in a fixed pattern, despite the "skill" control. Still q...

I can see two problems with what I think you are suggesting. Firstly, you must have some sort of mechanical brake on each reel in order to ensure that the reel stops on a symbol - if you just disconnect the motor after a period of time the reels will slow down and stop anywhere. With brakes comes th...

You will need some sort of timing mechanism (clock) in order to delay the brake, or brakes coming on. As you describe it your coin operated microswitch will only operate the motor briefly as the coin passes it - you need a latching relay to hold the motor on until it is released by the timer - a sim...

Bryans Machines in Great Yarmouth

The only arcade that I can think of in Great Yarmouth that would have been likely to have any Bryans Machines would have been Barrons Paradium. Unfortunately it went out business a couple of years ago and has now been gutted out in preparation to open as a "Bygone Times" sort of thing next...
