Re: The march of the woodworm

With my endless list of projects of machines bought in a past era, I wonder if this was the worst woodworm attack I had had to deal with..... initially there was a small hole, but as I prodded the paint clouds if dust rose in the air......I could not tell what the material was as dud nit look like ...

Re: The march of the woodworm

It's a great shame so many collectors hoarded away machines in storage and simply left them there. The Greshams being a prime example. Most of their collection riddled with woodworm in the later years. Even though Pat Gresham was fully aware of the infestation she preferred to do nothing, until she ...

Re: Photos of old Brenco Machines wanted

Triple Tap seems to ring a bell. In fact, maybe it did ring a bell when it paid out... I'm operating a Triple Tap machine in my arcade, originally on new 1p, now I've converted it to old penny. What a job. Literally everything had to be changed , coin mech, coin slides and chutes, even the split pi...

Re: Does anyone have pics of the Brenco Mystery Arrow?

Just a little bit of advice which may interest you, or it may not. Original Brenco machines have rocketed in value since their new lease of life in Old Penny Arcades currently operated, and a good deal of them post 1971 can be converted back from the new 1p coin to the old pre-decimal penny. Some Br...

Re: Does anyone have pics of the Brenco Mystery Arrow?

I remember when you literally couldn't give Brenco machines away in the trade. If you managed to get £25 for one you were doing well. Even selling them off to the general public was fraught with danger as they're on 240v throughout. Oh how times have changed re value, as the Mystery Arrow is £1,500 ...

Welcome back Richard. We've bought bits and pieces from each other over the years for '80s machines.

Ballys and associated conversions are just about old enough for us here! :HaHa:

Re: Confused Puppet Show?

If you're going to reinstate the solenoid pull for the tall clown, then putting small lightweight springs (inline) on each string will reduce the sudden jerk and prevent the puppet falling apart in the longterm.

I think Gameswat has put into words what a lot of us had been thinking for some time and maybe bit our tongues because of your advanced years Roger. It's good that you're here, but we don't need 'tasks' setting all the time, because the questions you ask you don't really appear to be interested in g...

Re: Confused Puppet Show?

Having seen your better photos, I'm inclined to steer away from thinking Hillcrest as a maker. The cabinet is completely different from theirs by way of dimensions and how everything is set out. The glove puppets and piano were a red herring as just put in there to make the sale. The cabinet trim wa...

Re: Confused Puppet Show?

The Sooty shows are Mayfield. As you point out there are some similar characteristics between the Hillcrest machines and cjfenny's, (cabinet edge trim, piano, etc). The Hillcrest machines have various cord pulls up to the puppets from one long horizontal pole in the base that rotates from a motor an...

Re: Confused Puppet Show?

I looked at the many photos and passed on this one. I'm afraid this has been right royally messed up after such a long time left in damp storage that the chipboard case has absorbed so much damp the cabinet has slumped under its own weight at either side of the stand, and that really takes some long...
