Re: Laughing Sailor auctioned off in USA
So, Morphy auctions did respond to my inquiry and I did get a view of the mechanics and about what I would expect. Some of the mech. is replaced; no record player, but a tape player is present; a lot of the mech. brackets etc. look new but it does look like the original type cams and gears. Motor ...

Re: Laughing Sailor auctioned off in USA
I believe the answer is NO on being in the 1994 Smith collection. I have both the printed catalog as well as a PDF and no such machine was in any lot description. I sent an inquiry to Morphy auctions when the catalog first went online on where that claim came from but no response. I expect likely it ...

Spot-a-Card pinball seen on TV
All, just of interest I noticed in a M*A*S*H episode ("there is nothing like a nurse") this week a scene had a 1960 Gottlieb Spot-a-card pinball machine. Only problem is that TV series was set in the timeframe of early 1950's. Guess the set director figured anything with wood rails fits in, even if ...

Re: Laughing Sailor auctioned off in USA
Well if figure and cabinet is original maybe some of the mech is too, so it falls into the over the top make it better than new restoration rather than outright all repro. The ESCO claim is because the original coin entry was replaced (probably to fit US coin) and has ESCO imprinted on the rather ...

Re: Laughing Sailor auctioned off in USA
Nowhere else! That's why I posted here about an auction in USA. I do sometimes see these in auctions and would love to have one, but I think most I see are repro. Some are very obvious repro, some look more convincing, but all are positioned in the auctions as c1950 including the 1990s ones. I think ...

Laughing Sailor auctioned off in USA
FYI, Apr 18, 2024 Clars Auctions local auction in Oakland CA sold what was described as a Modern Enterprises English working model Laughing Sailor. It was the only arcade game in the rather small (118 lots) maritime themed auction. It had a somewhat different looking cabinet than similar laughing ...

Re: I think this is most of us here
A friend of a friend came to one of my arcade parties about a month ago, he brought an impressive camera with a big lens. Turned out he was a Cinematographer by trade and aside from his normal business likes to make a short stylistic documentary every few months, so he came back a couple weeks later ...

Re: James Roller
I agree with the comment about getting the new generation to even be aware of these machines. As far as the arcade games, after a couple arcade parties this year I can say the latest generation still love to play the EM games, even back to the 1920's games. For most, it is the first time they ever ...

Re: Cupid’s Post Office
Here is my ESCO Cupids Post Office c1920-1930. It was restored by Mike Revelle and had some providence is that it was at one time in the Disneyland Frontier Land Penny Arcade but there is limited evidence of that other than a prior collectors statements and a Disney memo found in it. Restoration ...
