Re: Morphy April 2024 auction catalogue
If anyone still re-prints or sells used copies of his books I think many of us would be interested. I looked online, and only found a couple of links to them which said out of stock... Alternative would be any online digital copy if there are rights permissions for that.

Re: Arcade amusement signs adverts
Great signs, for years I have been looking for an actual vintage outdoor lighted Arcade sign, lots of repro, only one real one came up at an auction I was at and I regret not bidding higher to get it, I thought at the time it was going too high for condition (just part of original sign), but someone...

Re: Morphy April 2024 auction catalogue
The one lot I remember a lot of people clapping hands after the hammer was that peanut roaster that went for 2 or 3 times what it should have. I never quite understand that. Are they clapping for how foolish the buyer was, or clapping for the seller (the one person I expect to be clapping)?

Re: Morphy April 2024 auction catalogue
Well, as usual it was an interesting auction, I was only there on Saturday. Prices were very strong at this one. A very large Mr. Peanut roaster had the crowd expecting maybe 30,000 to 50,000 and bidding slowed there but then picked up steam again, ended up with a $110,000 hammer (and then there is ...

Re: Kiss of Death
The 2 cases that come to my mind regarding multiple entries in the range from 0% repro parts to 100% would have to be the Clawson dice game and the Encore player banjo, machines made from left over found parts after the factory is gone, and where more and more parts were reproduced to restore a mach...

Re: Rheostat repairastat
I am very sorry if my original reply sounded negative. I think your restoration tip on rheostats was unique and informative, and anyone restoring these old machines to save them from loss is doing a major service to keeping history of these machines alive.

Re: Rheostat repairastat
Good point on original being rubber vs cloth covered, only rubber wire I came across that was original had all either gone brittle and flaked off or turned into goo.. Vinyl would look more like rubber covering. Although I do see you can buy silicone wire which I would think would have the look and f...

Re: Rheostat repairastat
Very nice. But if you are going to the trouble to have proper vintage rheostat why not go the next level and replace all that modern vinyl wire with period appearance cloth covered wire, and put the bridge rectifier in a tin box to hide it (upgrades to restoration is never ending)? Modern UL approve...

Re: Green Ray Television restoration
Interesting point on the ink color fading. Green would make sense for the 'green ray' special ink. It would be interesting if anyone had cards that were still green ink. I guess I was thinking blue-purple and blue light illuminating the pen, kind of like the old copy machines that used blue UV light...

Re: Cowboys and Indians
Similar case happened to me once at a Las Vegas auction years ago. I had the winning bid on a Genco Basketball game, but went way over what I thought it should go for, so I was having buyers remorse. The runner up on bidding was having similar thoughts, but in his case it was regret not continuing t...

Re: Green Ray Television restoration
I printed 5 sets of cards using original fortunes. I would have done more but there was setup cost that was for each type. Anyone with one of these should really download the PDF document that was done as a museum restoration project. It has a wealth of information in it. In that PDF table 6 on pp 8...

Re: Green Ray Television restoration
There was another collector who contacted me recently for info as he has one under restoration. If you don't have any Green Ray machines now but find those cards, I am sure he would be interested in them. They can be reproduced today in original 1/16" thickness on antique letter press printers,...

Re: Green Ray Television restoration
So far I have identified at least 10 examples of an original green ray. 8 found online and in pics in that museum pdf document some of which are also seen in books. One recently started restoration by another forum member, hopefully he will post some pics of that project. And of course one with the ...

Are there any links available to AI tools for image restoration like that? I have used an online AI tool for sound component separation which was very impressive (separates vocals and different instruments from song track) but have not tried anything image related.

Re: Pete Barson wall machine identified
I would be worried even more than entire machine theft-resell if some low life took it into secluded place to bust apart for few coin inside. Vandals worry me most as the machines are then lost to history or damaged beyond repair...

Re: Back to Night School
First it depends on what type of motor you are talking about: modern crane inductive motor (with or without capacitor start) or vintage crane which usually had a universal motor (runs on AC or DC). If it is a universal motor, reversing the leads will ONLY reverse direction when being run on DC, but ...

Re: The Forum's yearly check up
Agree and needing different topics now and then to not be too narrow. I check this forum daily but my interest is in the penny arcade games, not gambling machines which is the majority of topics here. However, I do read all new updates as there are often interesting bits of knowledge about restorati...
