Re: Pete Barson wall machine identified

I would be worried even more than entire machine theft-resell if some low life took it into secluded place to bust apart for few coin inside. Vandals worry me most as the machines are then lost to history or damaged beyond repair...

Re: Back to Night School

First it depends on what type of motor you are talking about: modern crane inductive motor (with or without capacitor start) or vintage crane which usually had a universal motor (runs on AC or DC). If it is a universal motor, reversing the leads will ONLY reverse direction when being run on DC, but ...

Re: The Forum's yearly check up

Agree and needing different topics now and then to not be too narrow. I check this forum daily but my interest is in the penny arcade games, not gambling machines which is the majority of topics here. However, I do read all new updates as there are often interesting bits of knowledge about restorati...

What they benefit from is controversy, the more the better. Picking on something that may have no significant impact on their cause, but generate lots of headlines, show up on TV news (as this one did), etc. gives publicity. Most consider publicity good no matter in what light it puts them especiall...

Re: Harpoon or Shaft ???

Just like the economy, there are bubbles from external (mostly) or internal effects that sway the values as well. Back in the 1980s the external effect was a game room craze in the US; people converting their basements to game rooms with pool tables, vintage jukebox etc. Unfortunately during that pr...

Re: Harpoon or Shaft ???

I would say in the auctions I was in I didn't see that style of bidding. Usually the deep pocket guys were low key or had others bid for them that didn't draw attention to them. The higher prices were usually the result of 2 or 3 bidders that really wanted the same lot, and in that case they can som...

Re: The Forum's yearly check up

I think maybe 4 of those 5 responsible for 40% of the posts have now already replied to this thread before I did. While I think maybe the picture is painted a bit too bleak for US forums, I would say that PM still stands head and shoulders above the best of the US forums, well done. Answers usually ...

Re: Searching for old pals

Yup, things are super sized in much of the US, although only out in the rural areas when it comes to land area. I would never have had enough room for any of this in a city apartment, although maybe a pinball could go in an apartment living room at the expense of no couch. Even with a big door we ha...

Re: Searching for old pals

I disagree with Mr PM ugly assessment of poor Mickey Finn. It has character. Mine is a proud greeter of friends at the front door of my arcade in the hills of the US Sierra mountains with his quirky smile...In reference to Moonriver lamenting the machines that shipped across the pond I guess we just...

Just hoping a member knows something about it, or has seen one before. You never know, a lot of British unique machines made their way to the US shores...and PM forum has quite a few collectors from other countries.

International Mutoscope Liberty Bell Striker c1900 info needed

Does anyone have one of these, or have photos, information, etc. on the mechanics or cabinet pictures? I started work on one I picked up last year at auction. It was missing a section of wood and the metal plate the pipe on the striker goes through, which I have now replaced. Some material makes ref...

Re: A really Sad Story

I joined COCA much later than 2005. Unfortunately there hasn't been a convention in northern California or else I would make my arcade collection available on the tour... Last COCA collector arcade tour I was at was in Las Vegas last October (near the Morphy auction). Would love to see more arcade e...

Re: Peerless Product Pharaoh Working Model

The motor tested OK for leakage, unit was properly grounded and a new cord put on. It has also been restored to original large Penny play, the coin strike plate had been cut in half and different strip added for smaller coins, now restored back to what I think is the original shape. The original coi...

Re: Peerless Product Pharaoh Working Model

So I did win the bidding on it at the auction, and just got it delivered Friday in time to work on during my holiday break. Several issues which look to be easily addressed. Some of the changes done to use it in the US need to be reversed. The original coin slide was replaced but rest of coin mech a...

Re: Music Machines

For the 1906 Multiphone it is interesting to note that while they work on a nickel, originally they had their own Multiphone Co. brass tokens which could be handed out. I have had one of those Cylinder Multiphones for a few decades before finally finding a token to display next to it. Also, in the 1...

REPLICA . Unless an expert hands-on inspection is available to the contrary. I have one of those 11 replica ones. It looks just like the auction photo right down to the simulated wear on the mouth bottom from coin misses. It was very well made. The inside mechanism is made as the original would hav...

Morphy Oct 2023 Las Vegas

The Morphy return to Las Vegas had a good presentation setup in the main building. Lots were spread out enough to get around them for inspection. They provided reserved seats and complementary breakfast and lunch and it was well attended. Only downside other than the usual strong bid prices was that...
