Challenging Bradley...Help required!
Topic merged - Site Admin. Finally got around to restoring an old Bradley Challenger bought in bits some time ago and whilst, I'm pleased with the aesthetics, I have to confess that the mechanics remain a mystery to me. As I understand it, the pennies that are released from the crank on the coin sl...

Bradley Challenger Screw Replacements?
Does anyone happen to know whether an early-ish Bradley Challenger would have used Whitworth or UNC threaded screws? I'm looking to replace some missing ones (mostly the ones used to pin the coin chutes to the frame) and struggling to match anything with the few well-worn originals left in my curren...

Re: Brenner "Past The Arrow" Problems!
Erm..yes, kind of! My vantage point was a little closer than I had expected as I won the bugger! In fairness, it went for considerably less than the previous one I'd bought on ebay a couple of years ago....and this one actually works! The missing piece (which, of course, is present on this one, and ...

Re: Brenner "Past The Arrow" Problems!
That's kind gentlemen. I notice there's a similar aged one lurking in next weeks Elephant House Auctions. Assuming it will sail past my budget fairly quickly, I might get up there early and get a sneaky peek inside! I'm starting to think that the metal block missing from the lower spline on mine my ...

Brenner "Past The Arrow" Problems!
Good evening everyone. Wondered if anyone could shed some light on the following.. Bought the above in a partially dismantled condition and, following a strip down, clean and rebuild, I'm 99% there....but, although the mechanism works if the working bar is manoeuvred manually, something is very wron...

Re: BMCo. "Wizard" pediment graphic
A veritable cornucopia of manufacturing vagaries! For my own renovation project I think I'll stick to the green baize back flash and Pennymachines' later mirrored pediment! I just don't think the resources are there to be 100% accurate on a machine with so little original features left for guidance....

Re: BMCo. "Wizard" pediment graphic
Excellent!
Well, curiouser and curiouser!
Presumably, the paper discs may have been replaced by cellulose ones at around the same post-war period as the felt backflashes were being replaced by the same kind of material.

Re: Jennings Governor plating
I accept what Treefrog says, in that, £500 is indeed a hefty sum to pay for re-chroming a Jennings (especially if you can acquire one in good condition for that sum!) but it remains ultimately a personal choice. In my case, the machine was obtained at a very low price due to the poor condition of th...

Re: Jennings Governor plating
Paul is right, made the mistake of asking Ashford for a price to chrome a lever once. It was three times the cost of a brand new one so I left it. The emails went on for weeks as to why I hadn't decided to go ahead with the order! Unsurprisingly, I found that many places really didn't want anything ...

Re: BMCo. "Wizard" pediment graphic
Thanks Pennymachines! I should be able to work from these. I've done a couple with some success. I generally scan what's left of the old glass and then draw in the missing lines for the letters in a Power Point document, fill with the appropriate colour then pass the file to a friend who creates a v...

BMCo. "Wizard" pediment graphic
Greetings everyone. Does anyone have, or know where one exists on display, a BMCo. Wizard with the pediment graphic? I'm restoring one at the moment, and unlike other models where I've managed to re-create the pediment lettering from what was left of the original glass, on this occasion, the glass i...

Re: Jennings Governor plating
I've used Doug Taylor Metal Finishing Co in Weston Super Mare for chroming on several occasions including a full strip and re-chrome on a Jennings Governor. I've always been very pleased with the results. In fairness, they pointed out from the start that they could give no guarantees of either the q...

Re: BMCo. Wizard allwin
Thanks for your thoughts pennymachines, and I'm sorry for the late update..been away for a few days. Yes, I think these are probably the originals, although they are different from the supports on the other BMCo. machines I have (shown stripped and re-painted black) in that they have a seperate supp...

Re: What can happen if you buy on ebay
Hi everyone. I was actually the winning bidder on the above machine! Pennymachines, Shinypenny and JC all appear spot on. The pediment glass is the "red herring" which appears to have been hand painted and added later. Interestingly, the base of the glass is painted with the "Oliver W...

BMCo "Little Fivewin" Win / Lost Decals
