Re: Mills Operator Bell identified
I have to say though without knowing that much about bandits that I'd give the unrestored machine a lot more credit for having the original frame than the restored version. Since those smaller repro parts have been so freely available from dealers for the last 30+ years I think a lot of restorers pr...

Re: British Rifle Range
Chris, Glad to help. BP, after inserting a Penny into the side of the rifle you reset the mech much like a Winchester Repeater, by cocking the lever action down, think John Wayne in any western. This lifts up a rod with a hinged plate at the bottom of the cabinet. There is a spring pointer under tha...

Re: British Rifle Range
Hi Chris, could this be what you're talking about? These are 1920s or '30s Aussie made copies of the earlier English Electric Rifle/pistol ranges. There is a highly restored red example floating around in the US somewhere after having come out of New Zealand in the 2000s (shown here in old red paint...

What a mess! The cheapboard cabinet was enough to put me off.

Re: Mystery Machine - Pub game?
That's crazy! Nobody would stick 220 /240 v input lugs outside like that without some way to isolate - like a bakelite plug fitting. Had to be a battery.

Re: Chicagoland
But seriously JP, I owe you big time for all the machines you allowed me to ship home! As you know they are few and far between here in any condition. And enough future work to keep me busy for quite a while. And there will be a bunch of Aussie collectors down the road that will be very happy to own...

Re: Chicagoland
JP, too little too late. She badly needs servicing, and the kind of touch only an expert can offer. I won't be letting her slip through my hands. I think the saying here is "A fool and his treasure are easily parted?" And Mr PM, I feel so sad for you roughing it over there in the UK, the c...

Re: Chicagoland
Thanks lepingouin, great advert! And amazingly I just shipped home a set of alloy Roovers legs in this load but they are the short version for a stamper (dammit - shaking fist) . The long legs that I'm sure these were copied from were only used on the Roovers automatons like the Puss in Boots so the...

Yeah Tree, I pack like Tetris, I don't like to either waste space or chance damaging anything fragile /semi-fragile like coin cups or triggers etc.
Believe it or not I went out of my way not to buy much on this trip.

Thanks Slot, very bloody useful! It's funny but the photos of messed up machines are usually a lot more helpful because you can see what's going on under the paint etc.

Re: Komon Steve horse race help
Just did a Google search of the name and came up with this interesting bit of info from a 1943 Billboard magazine about high used machine prices in England. komonsteve And I was interested to see a little lower in the list of games the name Pleasure Island, which is the super rare export version of ...

Re: The late Dick Bueschel
Hey Bill, great to hear from you! And you're certainly right about Dick Beuschel, a legend in many ways. Part of the reason I became so enamoured with machines was because of the amazingly interesting articles he wrote that drew me into that world. Would be great to hear some of your own stories abo...

Re: Chicagoland
Hey Slot, that pipe piece is a jukebox extention speaker made by the slot company Keeney about 1939/40 i think. I have a sneaking suspicion it's been tampered with a little or it could be the junior model? Later I found the design patent which shows an added section below what i have that shone ligh...

Re: Chicagoland
Finally got all my US found treasures of last year ( some date back to 2008!) shipped home to Australia and picked them up from customs clearance on Fri. Had to rent this flatbed trailor to handle the load in one trip! Was a hell of a day and even though the crates were emptied and off the trailor b...

Re: Haydon & Urry THE TIVOLI
Great find there! And especially in such lovely orig cond and with so many cards, which are of course normally long gone from most machines. There's a very similiar example shown page 120 of Nic Costa's Automatic Pleasures book, dated c1897. That one has different looking artwork saying the same thi...

Re: Oliver Whales EASY PERM - Missing the arrow...
I've never bothered having any of these re-cast. I just grab a piece of brass sheet the right thickness, lay an original over the top to scribe a pattern and cut out with a small hacksaw. Then a quick clean up with a file and add in the feathers, plus the two holes. Doesn't take very long as such a ...

Re: Got another Allwin Deluxe
I bought this door along with two others, all of which i thought were just standard allwins after a very quick look, and was planning to use them for spare parts. But on closer inspection when it had arrived in aust i noticed the missing parts on the backside and tell tale holes etc. So i cut away t...

I assume these machines were made for operation at the London Playboy club back in the day. Because I can't imagine Hef licencing the name and logo for any other reason?

Re: Supplier of period glass?
Yes, was about to post about this anyway - always strip the mirrors outside and use a mask and gloves! I flake off any rough silver first with a blade. Then paint stripper will remove the back layer of paint used to protect the silver. Sometimes the paint stripper will remove some or most of the sil...
