Roovers in the UK?

Hey there, a friend who collects coin-op in the US is heading to London soon and has asked me about machines to see while in the city. I sent him the list of links from this site but he mentioned he'd particularly like to see any original Roovers fortune tellers as he collects these. I know of a few...

Re: 1930s Evans 'Galloping Dominos' on ebay USA

Yeah introduced in 1936. These big E/M consoles are complicated so they never really make much unless they have the animation like Paces Races etc. And that broken glass really brings the price down. Though that could be glued with amazing results if you know what you're doing.

Re: ebay poinsettia - real or repro

Over the years I've seen many of these floating around the UK, they must've been operated in huge quantities back in the day. So that will always keep prices down. Plus nothing special going on with the castings or out of the ordinary mech features.

Re: free machine

Damn - that's a hell of a nice score there! And at least for the well being of the rest of us you do have to get your hands slightly grubby on this one. I have to spend quite a lot of cash to buy my machines and ship them to Aust, and usually they're full basket cases!! I've been given a number of f...

Re: Coventry 2011

Hey, did a member here buy the Novelty Merchantman spares? If so maybe they want to unload a couple of pieces my way?? If I'd been there in person I'd probably have bought the lot and passed on the other bits. cheers.

Re: Mills Gooseneck slot machine electric shocker?

Thanks for the information daveslot. So what is the little window for between the handles? Bandito, that small window is for an OK feature, or also called future pay. Told you what you'd win on the next pull of the handle, so if you knew that it can't be gambling! Utterly brilliant trick to outwit ...

Re: Unknown lot

Judging by the fatter play handle, blanked off gum payout, lack of a cast name and lack of any wording to the coin entry plate, it appears that the machine is a knockoff made by someone else but using the Daval cabinet as a casting pattern.

Re: Dennison machine

I've been told that part of the low price was thanks to the auction timing, right during Chicagoland. Since it was an auction though, you never know what the buyer was willing to spend, so in these type of cases i imagine it was prob over $5000!! I'd have bid myself if I'd had any cash right now. Cu...

Dennison machine

Hey, wondering why nobody else has mentioned this machine yet? http://www.ebay.com/itm/RARE-CHURCH-HORRORS-CLOSET-SKELETONS-COIN-OP-DISPLAY-MECHANICAL-THEATRE-DIORAMA-/220888091591?pt=Folk_Art&hash=item336df4cbc7#ht_1567wt_698 Very cheap for a Dennison machine. Cool that it's pictured on page 65...

Hey, that Shoot to the Stars is the same as I have! Bang! Zoom! Straight to the moon! Just the moon is slightly different, looks like mine has a face. Somehow i missed this post and nobody else noticed I guess?!

Re: American arcade photo

From memory I think that's the late 1920s All American Baseball in a re-cased cabinet. Though the marquee mistakenly says it's the 1937 Rockola version which was copied from the earlier machine. I think there was a fire in the 60s that ruined some of the original cabinets. Some amazing games there b...

That's a kick-arse job you did there! And especially for a friend. Having done numerous jobs like this myself I know how time consuming they can be. But always worth the effort once you see the finished and restored machine.

Definitely a British conversion as I've had one and know it well. The cabinet was veneered under the laminex exterior and the coin entry is cast for Penny play. Found mine in the states too!

Re: Looking for an early Pilwin backflash or graphic file

I agree that it would be far preferable to save the original artwork, it looks pretty bloody good in my opinion. Can you glue the lifting areas down first and then cover it with thin clear polycarbonate sheet to protect it longterm? And it's not that hard to re-touch the faded colors. Though if you ...

Re: Corn Exchange

Tree-Frog, I'd be really surprised if it was made that way since every one I've ever seen looked like mine. These are late 1920s which was well before that streamlined look took off. And it just doesn't look right having the streamlined top and molded base. I'll bet it was an operator revamp in the ...

Re: Corn Exchange

Looks like a very nice buy to me. I really like the quality of these machines. I've had the Corn Exchange and the Stock Exchange. There should defintately be a piece of leather in the pump so it will work correctly, though from memory when I restored mine it was missing as it was in Coin-Op's exampl...

Re: Metal backflash - steel or ali?

Just remembered my fave play feature of the Circle Skills which is that revolving pinfield. I try to keep the ball in those pins for as long as possible, so once it's dropped past half way you quickly turn it 180 degrees and so on. I think my record was about 45 seconds before dropping into the cups...

Re: Metal backflash - steel or ali?

Hey, cheers everyone for all the kind words! Just keep trying to better myself each time. Sadly because I'm so isolated very few serious collectors ever get to see my games in person. I spend a lot longer getting the mechs right than I do the cabinets or artwork, which of course doesn't show too wel...

I also restored this very ratty coin payout Circle Skill a number of years ago... I wish I'd polished away some of the machine turning on my restored cig model playfield to make it look a little aged, oops. One thing I remembered about my polishing after watching the posted video clip of DIY engine ...
