You're right it looks well out.
Show us the reel stop sitting in the star wheel of the first reel. It may be that the arm is bent, so is engaging at an angle.

If you were trying to move the horizontal fingers out to release the slides while the machine was at rest then it would have been very hard to do. This is because the weight of the slides would be sitting heavily on them. They only move allowing the slides to retract during the cycle. If you haven't...

Without having it in front of me, I'd guess either excess of dry grease or lack of lubrication regarding the reel. Assuming you don't want to pull the mech apart and clean everything .... Have you tried laying the mech on its side to squirt de-greasant/lubricant where it may be most effective. Once ...

It doesn't happen often thankfully.
You may get a quicker reaction if there were a crime number to report as the system is supposed to work nationally.

Glad it's been helpful. I don't remember posting it, but, I'm pleased you like it. I'll probably give it a read myself, as that very mech reappeared on the test bed only yesterday. It's due its yearly dunk in a bucket of heavy industrial lubricant and a good thrashing with a ball pein mallet. BP :sm...
