Re: Wishiwell fortune teller

My guess is it being Bollands, one of the reasons being the unusual star decorations I have the same on one of my machines. When I bought my Bolland Love Test I was surprised by how over engineered and elaborate the mechanism was to achieve the relatively simple selection at the front, which seemed ...

Re: Wonders "Dropacopper"

The Wonders badge is actually a 'cock and balls' image and was a tongue in cheek addition by the gay owners. It does resemble the handle of the allwin but once you know the secret behind it , it really stands out

Re: Is Retro-Arcade still in business?

Yes I remember seeing that film, Barnacle Bill 1957, the kid brought in to demonstrate being able to win on the allwins when others couldn't ...... pre Gaming Board's opinion that allwins are games of chance.

Re: Is Retro-Arcade still in business?

Unfortunately his judgement in 1912 related to the Pickwick and its design.
Allwins were later not accepted as games of skill by The Gaming Board and are currently not accepted as such by the Gambling Commission either.

Re: Is Retro-Arcade still in business?

To operate an amusement arcade or 'pleasure fair' as local authorities used to call them you first need planning consent. They are sui generis use and obtaining planning consent used to be very difficult indeed without then having to follow on and obtain a local authority permit where you basically ...

Re: Is Retro-Arcade still in business?

Allwins are still classified as gaming machines, you cant just site them to operate anywhere you like. The only way you could is to block anything that the machine pays out, or ensure that EVERY coin inserted vends a chocolate. As far as operating modern reproduction allwins commercially (for exampl...

Re: Standing in snow looking at a car park.

Speaking of which even industry leaders Nobles have just sold out their entire estate of arcades , more than 85 sites, except Brighton ( Palace) Pier and Coral Island, Blackpool, which is perhaps an indication of how much the industry has been affected. They have decided to invest in London steak ho...

Re: Standing in snow looking at a car park.

You forgot to mention the numerous betting shops BP, which is the primary reason the arcades (both costal and inland) have either gone or are on their knees financially. Each bookie is really a gaming centre , each with 4 machines with 35 different games to play on each machine . Possible to gamble ...

Thanks for posting. For me, watching traditional motor driven cams with pulleys operating rods and levers and wires that bring everything to life at the front is the exciting part and I appreciate it's a whole load easier using electronic components. It's interesting you have taken your inspiration ...

Re: Morphy Coin Op Sale Jan 30-31 2016

It came up just after one of the Bollands and after I came off the phone bid, I hadn't paid it much attention but it went cheap I thought, unlike most other things. The room on both days was busy, a lot of people with a lot of money to spend who noticed other things they liked whilst they were there
