Bulkhead John, not wall.
You have to use a gimbal in order to ensure the playfield stays true. A problem that Isambard Kingdom Brunel had solved one morning after breakfast but before leaving for school.

I've usually placed a thin unobtrusive shelf under them. On occasion horizontal battens to the inside of the case back strengthen the ply wood from fracturing from the isolated pressure of the screwhead/washers. I was going to say the angle the photo was taken makes it look wider at the top than it is at the bottom.
The button is curious.
My guess is it might be just a "lucky button" that's not connected to anything.
