Re: Coin operated petrol pumps

The THEO Multiple isn't the coin-op pump shown. Two different pumps are described, the BMR being the coin-op one.

The THEO Multiple is something of an icon: It's the 'old pump' that looks like a lighthouse!

20-stop numbers on a 10-stop mech.
I'm guessing it's on a British coin?

A feast of my favourite electro-mechanical gems.
Jamieson's Automatics are well represented. One of mine (Top Dog, I think) has the Kraft label still present.
I didn't know these were available in 4-player form. Something else to look for!

Re: The old Exploding Key trick!!

Matches are dangerous; they can catch fire.
They should sell them without the red bit on the end; same as they've done with sweet cigarettes.
Much safer all round.

Re: Sega reel strip number????

It's certainly got blanked-off holes, but the extra symbols look to be oranges, not lemons, which is odd.
I'd clear away all those 'stuck-over' symbols, and see what's beneath.

Re: Sega reel strip number????

Are there still Melons on the reels?
As far as I remember, the Melons drop the jackpot, same as the Bars.
Look for extra Lemons, if the Melons are missing.
Then it's just a matter of un-blanking the holes in the payout discs.

Selling things on here is a lot more informal, but doesn't quite reach as many possible customers.
(Although the QUALITY is better!)

Re: Novelty Merchantman Crane

The background scene really sets the whole thing off. I mostly remember seeing them with a faded backboard, or just painted or wallpapered over. Mine has 1" mirror tiles, which I've seen before on British-operated examples. It gives a good impression of 'more swag', so I'm leaving it alone. My ...

The disc APPEARS to spin further than it actually does, when it's set up correctly. In reality, it moves only a few spaces. (Can't remember how many).
You need to be thinking VERY clearly to set these up.
Are they both Stockbrokers? I'd love a 'CRICKETERS' conversion.

Re: Elephant House Auctions

I only know motor auctions, but we generally set the first bid from the floor. The auctioneer asks "What have we got", and someone signals a derisory amount (two or three hundred quid, on a book price of a grand). It leads to quick-fire bidding, and, if it stalls AFTER the reserve is reach...

Re: Elephant House Auctions

Those are either 'off-the-wall' bids, or floor bids by the item's owner.
You generally have a fee to pay if you buy your own item!

Re: Elephant House Auctions

I'd certainly have had the pre-flipper pintable. I was offered 16 random examples for 3 grand last year, delivered! Where to put them was the problem. I certainly missed out there. As for bandits, the PACE was a bargain. Anyone know why the Firman brought £950, but the 'real thing' two lots later we...

Well, I thankfully got outbid!
A good rule is 'don't bid until you've studied ALL of the pictures'. It looked quite good in the first two.
Is the new owner on here? Perhaps it isn't totally hopeless after all.
I bought the TELSTAR instead. Further report coming once I've opened the box.

Just to confirm the Wheel of Fortune did not sell, it did not reach reserve.
I wonder what the reserve was.
Wheel of Fortune is on my 'wanted' list. Is the seller on here, perhaps?

It's closer to you, by three miles, than it is to me.
(82 against 85).
I'll not complain if you outbid me. £41 will do it.

I've never met this machine.
Let me get this straight: For three Stars, it pays out two-and-a-half quid, plus anywhere up to 25 nicker on top?
All in tanners?
Where do I learn more?

Re: Aristocrat Clubmaster

It goes right back to the early days in the US, to the days of gum and mint vendors. There was no problem putting coin into the machine; that was a simple retail sale. The problem came when the machine paid out in current coin. In many areas, a cash payout was nothing more than gambling, and not all...

Tokens with a hole were designed not to be playable in the machine, for the usual reason; getting round the never-ending absurdity of gaming laws.
