Re: Fixing large coin escalator problems
My Sega is a Progressive Star with a Shefras escalator. This has been almost faultless ever since it has been in the machine. The only problems I had were: (1) Spitting out good coins. Cure: I very slightly bent the hinged part which opens and drops a coin if there is one stuck in the rejector. It ...

Re: Rust removal with vinegar
Time for me to try this. I have a bit of corrosion on my Sega Progressive where, owing to the lack of space, it had spent a few months in the bathroom. A certain dog of mine had treated the winnings tray as a lamp post! The machine has been covered with a nylon sheet and is awaiting the arrival of ...

Re: Reel spin issue
Can anyone advise on any method of adjustment? I’m comparing it with a genuine Mills mech and cannot work out why one retracts fully while the other does not. I recall a similar problem when I lived on the Isle of Wight and collecting old bandits was in its infancy (mid 1970s). The stepped link arm...

Re: Jennings Governor 'win percent' rate question...
There was just a solitary jackpot on most of the Jennings machines. The most frequent wins were: Cherry Cherry Any (pays 5) Cherry Bar Any (pays 5) Bar Bar Any (pays 5) Bar Cherry Any (pays 5) Cherry Any Any (pays 3) Bar Any Any (pays 3) Now look at the Oranges/Plums/Bells... Mean! I think the over...

Re: Bally Gold Award payout problem
... But one problem that can stop payouts is the connector block at the back of the reels. If that is loose, it can stop functions operating correctly. Part of mine is missing a guide and it does stop holds from working and sometimes I get a win but it doesn’t recognise the payout. There were modif...

Re: Mills Bell o Matic Questions
Looks nice and original, but not sure reels strips are right with 7’s and Melons on Those reels might have come out of a Mills EJ triple 7. In fact, the whole reel mechanism could have come from another Mills machine. First reel shows a melon on the payline but the award card does not appear to sho...

Re: Sega Progressive Star artwork
Hello, radiochrissie. I notice that you are very lucky to have the meter in the machine. Mine had been covered up with body filler that took all day to chip off. There was a connecter between the coin escalator and the meter but that was missing because it was not compatible with the Shefras 5p (sh...

Hi Hope this is better than you have, could do with a bit of touching up. Sega Progressive Star topbox graphic in Resources - Site Admin. Most of the Progressive Star machines disappeared in the early 1970s because the 3 stars was a non-payout award from the machine. The law was changed to the effe...

Re: Sega Progressive Star coin meter
There has to be a way to reset that. So, if by chance it hit 9999 and jackpot happens that is 2 and a half quid plus 249 quid old money hand pay, a small fortune in the day. No doubt the owners would regularly nobble this cause quite a risky payout for them. Also having a guess, i think this machin...

Re: Sega Progressive Star coin meter
On my Progressive, the 3 melons or 3 bars pay the jackpot (originally about 140 sixpences, then after 1970 converted to shillings and paying about 100 coins). The 3 stars paid "100 coins plus meter reading" but they actually paid nothing. The winner had to shout to the bar staff to come o...

Re: Unusual Aristocrat Olympic four reeler
The 4 reel Aristocrat that I remember was called the Quadreel and appeared during the summer of 1974. At the time, there was a surge in 4 reel machines but most of them were electric with hold buttons. Bally also had a few 4 reel electro mechanical machines at the time. Not long afterwards, Aristoc...

Looks like he needs a complete new payout tube as the bolt hole has been smashed off, or some fabrication to make a new one? Bodger's delight! You're the one who picks up the pieces (depends how many pieces you need) after the care and attention has been lavished from someone who works in a butcher...

Re: Shefras Aero - Where to start?
I remember those choc dispensers at fairgrounds. If you were lucky enough to win one without paying at least double the cost of the choc bar, you would find that the summer sunshine had melted it and the only cure was to take it home to put it in the fridge for about an hour to solidify. Then you t...

Re: Jennings jackpot lever
The Jennings was a mean machine when it came to winning jackpots. Odds of 7999 to 1 of hitting it. Most of the Mills and Sega machines had 2 (and sometimes 3) jackpots. If your club or bingo hall had a Jennings, you could wait literally for weeks before seeing it happen... and it was usually someon...

Re: Mills wing nut gone missing
I think I have arrived too late to give you any info but if you are still minus the wing nut, I can tell you that I bought wing nuts and the related bolts from a hardware store. I needed mine for the reel brakes. I changed both parts just in case the wing nut was metric and the bolts were imperial ...

Re: Tool to adjust reels
My Sega reel clamp bolts are hex head but also have a screwdriver slot in them. They don't need to be tightened really hard like wheel nuts and I find it easier to stick a screwdriver down there instead of fussing around with sockets and a long extension.

Yes BP, Mad Magazine did steal the face, but so did Caille, proven to date at least back to 1894 according to this Wikipedia page. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alfred_E._Neuman Sega Mad Money also had him on the reels but in America, there could have been trouble for copyright reasons. An identica...
