Re: Sweetmeats postcards
To follow on regarding the "Lord George Clowes" postcard and the suggestion that Treefrog made that it may have been New Brighton not Brighton Sussex. This was right, I have now found a postcard showing exactly where the framework supporting the machines was located.

Re: Elephant House Auctions
Just seen the news on Steve's site about his mum, had no idea she was that ill. In typical good humour she is keen to be on the rostrum again. I am sure everyone here who knows her, sends their best wishes and looks forward to seeing her back at the Elephant House when she well enough. Gloria I hope...

Following bryans fan's additions I have had another sort through my postcards and offer the following cards that I hope to be of interest. Firstly a couple of chocolate venders including a rarely seen Peter's Swiss milk chocolate. 1.jpg 2.jpg The back of the postcard is marked Folkestone, no date. H...

Re: Le Conquerant French Wall Machine
These French 'allwin' style machines all are made before 1915. As I understand from a French collector I met in Paris some years ago, the two factories where they were made were both bombed by Zeppelin bombers during the war. Subsequent machines made after the war were only the three choice roulette...

Re: Michael Harris Snr. A great Loss
So very sad to hear that Mich as he was known to everyone who knew him, as I did for many years. He will live on in all the bandits he restored over his life. I last spoke to him a couple of years ago when he was in poor heath and was suffering from loss of memory. A truly lovely and generous man wh...

Re: Sweetmeats postcards
Regarding the 'Lord George Clowes' postcard, when I brought this postcard from ebay about 10 years ago I googled Lord George Clowes' but found nothing. I also had the postcard re-mastered and enlarged to A3 which I now have framed. This shows that the machines are set on scaffolding in front of an a...

Re: Canterbury Auction Galleries auction: 6-7 Feb '18
Just a few notes on the auction: the vendor is well known to me and I'm certain all machines will be in full working order with keys. The L'Eclaire was bought from me many years ago and plays on French 25 centimes, the ones with a hole in the centre (I can supply some if needed at 25p each). The Rip...

Victorian wall hanging circus astrology game machine
This was the described title for a lot in today's Victorian, Edwardian and general sale at Bamfords in Derby. It had a guide of £120 to £180 and was described as dating from 1880 (about 20 years older than I would date it). I phoned the auctioneers and asked for a phone bid as sale is over 200 miles...

Re: Bollands Iron Clad wall machines
The machine sold at Chiswick auction rooms was I think not at all expensive. One last year sold privately for over £1600. I have spoken to two people who were unaware of the auction but both of them would have paid a lot more given the chance (one has been looking for one for many years). I expect t...

Re: Reeman Dansie auction
Clearly a typo by me should have read£6-10,000 ! for Daughty and Barett lot 3422 . The machine does however from picture look to be 100% original and would think a fair estimate if on inspection this is the case. Other estimates a bit mixed but surly a typo on green ray [lot3484] should be hundreds ...

Re: two man football mechanism, any info?
Thanks Bob for posting the patent - saves me searching for my copy. I have seen two machines in similar cases to patent, also Nick Costa had one he recased in a cast iron new casting. The empty case was sold in the Costa sale at Christies and went to the USA. I am in contact with the person who boug...
