Re: 30s Pinball

Can one of our transatlantic readers tell me what 'Spark Plugs' refers to, in horse-racing terms?
In Britain, it is only applied to the metal-and-porcelain devices for igniting the mixture in internal-combustion engines.

Re: Sega Bell Slot Lucky Devil Restoration

The switch is OPEN during rest. It closes every time the payout fingers are released, except in the single case of the 'no-devil' ORANGE, where it is kept open by an additional thickness of metal on the payout disc at that point. The switch is wired in series with the payout solenoid. When the featu...

Oh dear, I am losing it and only 3 years ago.....yes you're right, I was there and drove two large multi sided arcade machines to the south coast if I recall..... Well it looks to have slightly deteriorated since then....... Two large multi-sided arcade machines....? My type of machines! What were ...

Re: Sega Bell Slot Lucky Devil Restoration

On mine, which is in a SEGA-style cabinet, the microswitch shares the CHERRY pay-out finger, but it operates every time the mech is cycled, irrespective of wins. This is correct. The microswitch only has power when the FEATURE is in operation, and it energises the solenoid on the FEATURE pay-out fin...

Essex made monkey climbers, but I don't think they were as wide as this one. More like a crane-size case.

Re: Davy Jones penny pusher - Help!

It makes the machine interesting to me. CAM Automatics (and MAC, before them) were based at Seaham Harbour, which is one of my boyhood haunts. I've never liked pushers. I think perhaps the principle was a little too basic; but this one was small, early (as pushers go), familiar, and not damaged by t...

It was within collection distance, and I'd have given £420 for it, had it been offered to me at that price.
It wasn't, so I didn't.

Re: Davy Jones penny pusher - Help!

I never realised that this machine was by CAM Automatics of Seaham Harbour.
I was the under-bidder, too.
I'd certainly have gone up to £350 if I'd known!

Re: Caille 4 reeler

It's probably been blanked-off. The first reel was only used for the Grand Prize, which had to be claimed from the attendant as there was no payout disc for it.
Most operators gave up on it, once the novelty had worn off.

It needs six losses per win to break even, by my reckoning.
Not a big earner by Allwin standards. Almost as bad as my Easy Perm, which often 'runs out'.

I looked at that at the time. If I'd read this thread earlier, I'd have bid. I think the 'module' providing 'retro sounds' (?) put me off.
I have a Jackpot, with the distinctive control panel casting. In the light of what we now know, can we safely credit it to Philip Shefras?
