Re: Top Dog electro-mechanical relays
I don't believe it! All I did was to clean the tops of the relay covers in order to answer Slotalots question and have just had another look and hey presto! The hare lamp is flashing! All I have to do now is keep playing until the hare wins (maybe some time, as it's 12d payout) and I will be chuffed...

Re: Top Dog electro-mechanical relays
I think maybe it is a capacitor rather than a resistor? They have 10 mfd 50v on them. When I put a meter across them, the other four with the 'blobs' attached read 1340-1380 ohms, but the 3rd from right reads 1414 ohms. (This was done without the machine in play). In play, the contact does not appea...

Re: Top Dog electro-mechanical relays
When I put a penny into the hare slot (the third relay from the left, looking through the top) a contact opens at the beginning of the game and closes at the end. (Is this what is meant by latching?) The third from right (with the resistor?? attached) goes up and down frequently throughout the game.

Re: Top Dog electro-mechanical relays
Coo! That is very different to my set up and looks more straightforward-far fewer relays for a start. I have never used the video facility on my simple camera but will have a go Thankyou for the prompt reply and for taking the trouble to wade through my splurge

Re: Top Dog electro-mechanical relays
Thanks very much Slotalot for the prompt reply. I have just ordered that item you suggested.
BP,- not sure I understand about the 240 volt thing switching to 24v DC - it has a transformer and rectifier to supply 24v DC to the relays.

Top Dog electro-mechanical relays
I recently bought a Top Dog electro-mechanical machine, dating, I would think, from the 1960s. I do not know the maker. The idea is to bet your (old) penny on which dog or the hare will win, once the cycle of flashing lights stop. It pays out between 2d and 12d. It operates partly on 240volts AC and...

Re: Got another Allwin Deluxe
Mr PM, not doubting your knowledge sir, but could you please tell us what the tell tale signs in Scotties photo are that makes it almost certainly a converted reserve ball game? Thanks.

Re: got another one....
Scottie, in case you are not aware, the reserve ball machines had a window in the middle of the playfield behind which there were three balls which could be brought into play depending on where the ball lands in the gallery. There is good information including a picture and as to why they were conve...

Re: got another one....
It certainly looks like how we have come to believe these were made in Germany. From the photo it looks like there is a hole in the playfield just to the right of the door lock - this is where there could have been a 'gate' that is associated with the reserve ball machines. BMco moved to Goswell Roa...

Re: Very Clever Idea.. How to Fool Ebay
I have just spoken with the Gambling Commission and was told that when you come to the 'intend to supply/sell the machine' section of the permit, although the guidance notes say to furnish the name of the buyer, it is absolutely OK to put that you are selling through a local paper, internet auction ...

Re: Very Clever Idea.. How to Fool Ebay
There was a German wall machine sold on ebay very recently that the seller had thrown off twice by ebay so he bought a permit and quoted the number in his listing. He assures me that he only had to quote the make and model of the machine and his address and that there was 'nothing on the permit to c...

Re: Ebay & Gambling Licence
Ah,I hadn't realised you had to list the buyers details whilst applying for a permit,if this is the case and I'm sure JC has investigated this to the full, then it is clearly useless with regard to selling on ebay. Is having a licence as opposed to a permit different then in this regard? Has anybody ...

Re: Ebay & Gambling Licence
Meanwhile, bite the legal bullet and pay the £25 for a permit, thus enabling a proper listing, gaining the confidence and enthusiasm of bidders? In this way some or all of the permit fee would be retrieved in the selling price?

Re: Ebay & Gambling Licence
Just quoting the words on the form and dictionary meanings-nitpicky I know but if supply can mean give for free[ which it seems it can] then it seems we would still need to stump up £25 to gift a machine as well as to sell one as supply would encompass selling . I wonder how a judge would unravel at...
