Father of Coin-Ops
I keep reading tributes to pioneer coin-op collectors who were barely out of the cradle when Fred Fried was around. He is best described as the father of coin-ops, carousels and amusement parks. I was once offered one of these wooden horses (seen in the YouTube video below) which was from the old Co...

Re: A really Sad Story
Thank you for your informative stories on Roovers machines. It goes to show that you are never too old to learn a thing or two. I never even heard of the "Educated Monkey" or Educated Bulldog. Will you please tell me the source of your information so I can learn all about them. Should I bu...

Re: A really Sad Story
Perhaps Gameswat can fill us in on a machine that was owned by the late Ken Rubin. The details of this machine read like a "who-dun-it", the details of which I cannot reveal for personal reasons... It can best be described as having a curved glass front. Gameswat should know what I am desc...

Re: A really Sad Story
Gameswat had to bring up one of my recurring nightmares.......Instead of counting sheep, I see Roovers "JUMBO" and a dozen like him but that's another of my crazy coin-op stories that is best left untold. ROGER

A really Sad Story
cry.jpg I just found out that pioneer coin-op collector Ken Rubin has passed away. He is best remembered for his book "Drop Coin Here" and his vast knowledge of the hobby. Mention any old time collector and I usually have some associated story. Ken and I were long time friends and serious...

Re: Patience is Rewarded
Mr. P has inquired about the operation of the Waddell Bike Machine. As I recall, both numbered wheels would spin resulting in a total score. The owner would then pay out cigars as posted on the award card. ROGER

bike-2a.jpg Over the years I have bid on a number of these "Bicycle" trade stimulators, generally, without success. They were made by the Waddell Mfgr. Co. U.S.A (circa 1900)...better have deep pockets. ALAS, some years ago at an auction in Maine, U.S.A. one came up for sale near the end ...

It is hard to imagine that most of these rare machines are still sitting under the stars and have never been stolen or sold by the owner. ROGER

Re: Win some...Lose some
Coppinpr posted that the Mills Lung Machine was banned due to the spread of diseases. One of these killers sold at a recent Morphy auction for $135,000. Anyone who would pay that kind of money for social diseases would certainly enjoy a good hernia with one of these High Strikers...........ROGER Hig...

Greyhounds Holiday Greetings
confusing greyhouds.jpg The mystery of my "Play Polo" machines has to be right up there with the Great Pyramid. How did my Polo machines end up in a remote auction house in the United States? The shipping cost from England must have been close to my purchase price. Lastly, how did an Engl...
