Re: National penny scale
I would be interested in buying the machine on the left if anyone knows where the penny goes.

Re: Ebay clown
I don't suppose it matters 'cos nobody is going to buy at these prices. Or maybe there is some fool out there who believes the hype.

Font looks similar to Bahnschrift Light SemiCondensed but Arial Narrow is a good approximation too.

Re: Electroplating (chrome, nickel etc.)
Has anyone had success with chrome powder coating? It looks like a good finish but I wonder how durable (and expensive) it is.

Re: Bajazzo Clown wall machines
martynbr they are 1.2mm thick but, as sweetmeats says, it probably would be cheaper to buy the originals, unless you know a very helpful mechanic who could stamp them out for you.. They do come up on Ebay from time to time at about 50p each. Isn't it amazing that machines of around 100 years old are...

Re: Bajazzo Clown wall machines
The tokens are around 17.5mm diameter as you can see from an example from my machine. I've also uploaded a photo of my restored Clown so you can see the text of all the labels on it. (Pretty sure I've done this before.) It should be easy enough to make a copy using any computer drawing package. Look...

Re: Vertical and horizontal fingers - Aristocrat Mad Melons
Isn't the Dog and Anvil the pub where Mad Melons works behind the bar? If you go in there, watch out for Bearing Caps as he's a bit of a kicker especially when he's well oiled.

Re: Japanese barber pole
Why not use a transformer to produce US 120V from our mains voltage? It would be a lot easier to do it this way, and you keep it in original condition.

Re: Sourcing & making springs for slot machines
The low temperature stress relief removes the stresses caused by cold working (winding the spring) but it isn't hot enough to anneal the piano wire, which would remove the springiness altogether. I don't bother with this step usually and I don't remember it ever turning brown. Perhaps it was the dri...

Re: Sourcing & making springs for slot machines
The video is a help (as long as you can bear the endless puns). Also I found the complicated tools he used for feeding the wire quite unnecessary. I used a couple of plastic strips, held by the fingers of my leather gloved hand, worked best. Then you can vary the pressure and the feed angle as neede...

Re: Le Clown Bajazzo
I've attached a photo of the Clown Instructions. You will see that the text (and the font) vary from your example so it might be best to use a software drawing package to make up the card Anyway, for what it's worth, here is a copy of mine.

Re: R&W Many Happy Returns/Fill Em Up mech
Sorry Arrgee I should read things more carefully. Thanks for the pics you sent. I decided not to get a quote for the ball exit washer, recommended by PM. I've already spent too much on the machine - mainly on the re-chroming. Instead I made a transfer using the info from Arrgee (sorry again). The pi...

Re: There's a new girl in my life
You will have to get a Gunter Wolff bandit mechanism to fill that lovely case. Although how one could pay out 1d beats me - all the pay slides I have seen go in multiples of 2.

Re: R&W Many Happy Returns/Fill Em Up mech
You're welcome Geoff. Taking the unit out is a piece of cake. You have to admire the designer of this machine - it is beautifully and cleverly designed. Just remove part of the input coin slide (the brass bit gets in the way) unhook the spring that operates the knob release dangly bit and remove 6 s...

Re: R&W Many Happy Returns/Fill Em Up mech
These folk can reproduce them, but too expensive for a one-off, I think: http://www.vintagebrassplates.co.uk/ Thanks PM, I will ask them for a quote. Otherwise I was simply going to print out the coloured detail on transfer paper and put it on a suitable washer. Have to see how much they want for t...

Re: R&W Many Happy Returns/Fill Em Up mech
Tallstory, how did you make you replacement pins? Was it a single piece of bar or two different sizes, one inserted in the other? And what material did you use? Finally how to they attach to the rest of the mech? And finally, finally…… is it straightforward to get the mech off to fit the pins or do...
