Re: Oliver Whales 9 Results allwin identified
Second coat of clear yacht varnish gone on case and door after sanding has its first coat on... looking good I think! A busy time of year so will take a break for a number of days before cleaning up the dirty chrome and tackling the rusty insides. They have had a light brass wire bushing a number of...

Re: Cartoon characters on Oliver Whales allwin
Thank you for replies, especially from coppinpr with pictures and notes. You always have some good advice and knowledge on vintage amusement machines. I think you have found the backflash. Seems like it's 9 Results in the centre and top surround off a Win a Gift! Don't know how it got on a 5 win 2 l...

Re: Cartoon characters on Oliver Whales allwin
Did a little more sand papering then wiped all dust off with a clean cloth that had been dampened with white spirits. First coat of clear yacht varnish has now gone on (that's been weakened down by mixing some white spirits with it). I am keeping the heating on in the house so it dries with a nice f...

Re: Unusual cartoon characters on new allwin
Already spent an hour with the sandpaper... will do another hour a different day before varnishing. I personally find hand sanding best as I used to use paint stripper years ago with a bad finished effect... Often on washing off the paint stripper from the wood with water it left stained patches in ...

Oliver Whales allwin with '9 Results' flash
Just bought my new restoration piece a couple of days ago. Condition is solid, odd bit missing which I have, no glass but now replaced and works we seized and rusty and tracking and chrome not rusty but heavy black from 40 or so years garage storage. I have started a full strip down of all the works...

Re: Rare tokens/coins found in 1930s Roman Head bandit case window. What are they?
With putting the tokens on site I did it under Questions and Answers... perhaps someone knows what they are. All up to now have been guesses I suppose. I go on forums when I have a problem with vehicles and work on what people often know what the problem is... ie I wouldn't accept always what advice...

Re: Rare tokens/coins found in 1930s Roman Head bandit case window. What are they?
Hi,
I used to collect coins as a young man and gave away to a young relative that collection just a few years ago.
Funnily, I have just dug out the slot machine tokens I have.
Can't help feeling the 3 tokens found in the Roman head bandit look interesting though.

Ha ha let's see if Freddie Bailey has any knowledge on them!!!!! ps. Seriously I too have had many old s...

Re: Rare tokens/coins found in 1930s Roman Head bandit case window. What are they?
I got in touch with Freddie Bailey yesterday and he wanted me to send some pictures... however unless I have got it wrong, site private messages and site email don't allow me to send pictures... so maybe the site administrator could copy and paste them to him. Could the letters T.C. be Trade Craftsm...

Re: Rare tokens/coins found in 1930s Roman Head bandit case window. What are they?
Thank you coppinpr, you really got me thinking a lot with your interesting reply. You could be right but I still am bordering on token or coin for an event... The trouble is, someone has gone to long lengths to produce the detailed quality of the effigy of the prince, also the milled edges like they...

Re: Rare tokens/coins found in 1930s Roman Head bandit case window. What are they?
I have took some more new pictures of the tokens/coins that I found in the 1930s goose neck bandit case window in the 1970s. I still have the gilt gold platted tokens. Also I have got in touch with Freddie Bailey. If anyone might know what they are, it could be him with his many years in the amuseme...

Re: Win A Crunch
Hi, a lovely machine and I have one myself. The original sized crunch bars, as you probably know, are now not available but, Nestles animal bars should work well... they do in mine! It's worth cutting a piece of wood to go on top of the row of bars and put a weight on it - helps the bars drop down e...

Re: Flatten a plastic backflash
I wouldn't try fattening the backflash, as they are back painted and the paint may at the least start falling off. It doesn't look bad at all. I trust you will enjoy the machine.

Hi coppinpr, thank you for the set of bandit reel brakes that arrived today. We have just fitted them and what a difference they have made! The bandit reels run slower and don't jump when they stop. It's made my machine far more enjoyable. Thanking you again and we will keep in touch. tammy

Re: My half penny play Payramid
I was interested in brigham's comment about how he felt there were not many Payramids, in the arcades after 1930 or so, on halfpenny play. I was a child brought up in the 1950s and it was the opposite in the seaside arcades and the regular Hull Fair that I spent such a lot of my younger days in. A g...

Re: Firmans
Hi Freddy, I found 5 token like coins inside an original 1930s Roman Head Bandit wrapped in old yellowed newspaper in a side display window. It was back in 1972. The coins have serrated edges and are coin like and old penny size too. At first look I thought they were gold... but evidently gilt or co...
