Re: The Peter Simper Stabilizer Revealed
I had an early ACE microprocessor controlled machine - perhaps you'll recognize it. It is the only piece of electronic equipment I've ever come across that used the Intel 4004, the first microprocessor ever made. Unfortunately it never worked properly so I broke it up, keeping only the rather attrac...

Re: Sega mechanical slot machine
The yellow produces 25V with respect to the orange, and the red produces 25V with respect to the black (common). So when you connect the orange and the red, you get 50V between the yellow and the black, and 25V between the orange/red and the black.

Re: Sega mechanical slot machine
No, it won't. You get 25V between one end and the middle, and 50V between the same one end and the other. Without actually being there and looking at the wiring, I'm not able to give you specific advice, but you can trace it off the old transformer. The 25 and 50 volt circuits will have a common con...

Re: Some machines I saw on holiday
Unfortunately it's illegal to offer those old machines for play in Nevada now. They don't have the new-fangled electronic monitoring - shoot, you can even open them without an automatic alarm being sent to the authorities - so Gaming Control is constantly worrying that they'll be cheated out of a ni...

Re: Sega mechanical slot machine
You could always replace your one transformer with more than one transformer. 6V trannies are easy and cheap, and all it does is run the lights, so a 6V 1A will do you. As for the other, look for a 50V with center tap, or 25-0-25, which you should find at Farnell. One end to the center is 25V, one e...

"Dime Charley" looks like a repurposed vending machine from a gentleman's lavatory. The Roman looking machine is a plastic toy from the Caesars Palace gift shop.

It's four and a half volts. That style of battery with the two different length spring terminals was made well into the 1960s. A very nice find, though!

Yes - if the thermal contact doesn't open, the payout relay will never operate because it's shorted out.

Re: Roto-Pool, Roto-Fruit, Rotolite, Electrodart, Bingola, etc.
Ok, let's try and clear up the confusion. The difference between 36V DC and 70V AC can only be explained by a measurement error - the 70V is wrong. 36V would be just right if the transformer is 24V AC, which it probably is. The delay heater coil is in parallel with the bell. The low resistance betwe...

Re: Roto-Pool, Roto-Fruit, Rotolite, Electrodart, Bingola, etc.
50 microfarads, that ain't much. 250V, huh. That was a common electrolytic capacitor in the days of valve radios, which is when the game was made, so I guess they took what was laying around. The ripple will be horrid. I answered your PM and recommended 1000 microfarads. You will find modern capacit...

Re: Roto-Pool, Roto-Fruit, Rotolite, Electrodart, Bingola, etc.
The original circuit could be simplified. It is possible that they cut out the start relay and run relay on this model. The sticking bell is, yes, a failure of one of the thermal timers that needs to open to step the payout. But wait! It may not be the thermal relay. It could be insufficient voltage...

LOL, obviously there are no "official" anythings in this field, but a gent like Mr Bailey, who has been involved mostly at the showman end for 60 years, may very well be the most knowledgeable person still living. The measure of a researcher, though, is in his publications, and Mr Bailey i...

Re: **stop press** Buckley pays jackpot!!
They probably came out of a Nevada casino. Nevada regulations said the prize amounts must be shown to the player before the game, which ruled out the self-filling jackpots since it was impossible to know how much was in one.

Re: Your thoughts on a non slot subject please
Well I don't mean to be discouraging, and like I said, I don't know what the UK market will stand. I know you guys over there are used to paying arm+leg for everything, and I recall the VAT has to be included in the price (over here the tax is added on at the cash register), so that makes the actual...

Ostrich meat tastes horrible - like gamey turkey, but dry and hard to swallow. I had an ostrich burger once in California. Never again. I wouldn't feed it to my dog. Back on topic, I've been following the thread but haven't joined in yet. It's been a long time since I was in Britain so I'm out of to...

I had to come back and rave a bit about these games. They are dead on accurate in every detail - what a splendid effort. For people who don't know how to play these machines, you don't just play one coin or credit. Every credit you play can step up the features and payouts - may do so - each coin is...

Tip 'o the hat to Gary The Golfer for rewinding the coil. I was going to suggest it before I saw that you'd done it. I've done it myself. I once bought a job lot of uniselectors on Ebay and when they showed up they turned out to be SIX VOLTS . I had no idea that six volt uniselectors even existed. T...

Re: Bell-Fruit Gum Company: Fact or Fiction?
Just about all the claims about the Bell Fruit Gum co in the top post are wrong. There never was a bell fruit gum company, nor for that matter a Bell Fruit company until one was started up in England in the 1960s.* Mills started putting a chewing gum vendor on the side of their machines around 1910 ...
