Re: Watling Reel Strips

Having gotten a bit peeved with this oversized pdf file lark, I have downloaded Adobe Acrobat Pro and created a new PDF file with just one set of reel strips. It is attached here and really is the best wot I can do! The scanned image is sized to the A2 page, so I have no idea as to how you would pri...

Re: Watling Reel Strips

Cheers Alan, Ah, so, Samson!, one of the the other (British, I think ??) 'front' makers/suppliers. They will likely be dummy windows though I guess? yet this front does have the second payout cup - which suggests a GA token was intended or available at some point. Any sign of a dispenser inside ? H...

Re: Watling Reel Strips

Andy,

On your Watling, could you please tell me what the little window to the left of the reels is for? On mine, the space is empty with no mechanism or graphic behind the glass and I am curious about it.

Cheers,

Alan

Re: Watling Reel Strips

'Interesting' machine there youngerap,,,, I almost think I may have something on this, will check it out and get back later. Would appear to be a British 'front' though - 3d obviously, dummy jp's, - Firmans possibly? andydotp Hi Andy. The Gold Award on the front is a Samson, so I am assuming they ha...

Re: Watling Reel Strips

Oh, which Watling do you have? Any pics? DSCF1974.JPG Well, there has been some thoughts given on that in another topic, with consensus being that it is a FOK Vendor. However, Dave at MrSlot1 advises me it is likely to be a 'Torch Front' from 1928-1930, that it probably never was fitted with a jack...

Re: Watling Reel Strips

That reminds me, On my 1c Watling Ball Gum Vendor I have apples instead of oranges and a pear on the first reel, yet standard award card sans both of the above. Always thought it was strange - but it is 100% original. Anyone else found this? Cheers, andydotp No, but I think you should send the mach...

Re: Watling Reel Strips

Well, here we are. I was lucky enough to find a local printer who could scan these reels in one go and print them on quality A2 silk photo paper. They tripled up the images to maximise the use of the paper so, for the princely sum of under £14, I have three excellent reel strip sets as insurance aga...

Re: Single machine Permit, this what it looks like

OK, so now everyone is saying, 'leave things as they are, don't rock the boat....... And so I fade from these threads, having, I assume, lost friends by speaking my mind. We each have our views and discussion leads to a consensus but you can't make an omelet without breaking eggs. Paul, I do not be...

Re: Single machine Permit, this what it looks like

I would suggest that the conversion of vintage slot machines for use as modern day gambling machines is unlikely. The maintenance and repair aspects alone would be prohibitively expensive with spare parts and maintenance knowledge becoming as rare as rocking horse poo (if not already). Shame, really...

Re: bad restoration on TV

I hate that program. I watched a number of episodes and became convinced that it was a spoof program. Just stopped watching it when it became clear that the comedy was not intended and the poor sap 'customers' were actually expected to smile whilst being mugged. Mind you, there are a lot of programs...

Re: Thinking of doing a video ......

I shall look forward to this with great interest, BP. I fear I will need it! I have a Novomat in my workshop that needs bringing back to life. The case is in a bit of a sorry state, with the back needing repair (delaminating, of course). The case generally needs a good clean and repaint (I believe i...

Re: Well I'm certainly fooled

Not so long ago that Iran was a much more pleasant environment to live in - particularly for women. They were educated, allowed to drive, hold down a career and had freedom of choice as to who they had contact with and what they wore. Must have been one hell of a shock and very disappointing when th...

You mentioned the rotary escalator. There is one on ebay today:

Hope this helps.

Re: Interesting and very hopeful reply from my MP

I don't think he's palming it off. I may be wrong, but I think a commission just studies a subject and recommends changes in laws and regulations. Hi, OP. No, I do not believe they are quite that benign. Their website states: "The Gambling Commission was set up under the Gambling Act 2005 to r...

Re: Interesting and very hopeful reply from my MP

Further update (and I cannot believe we actually pay these people and give them fat pensions!) My MP, Andrew Tyrie has received a reply from Hugh Robertson, Minister for Sport and Tourism (apparently, gambling issues now fall within his Ministerial remit) and forwarded it on to me. Nothing ground-br...

Re: Watling Reel Strips

Thanks, Paul. Your advice is very much appreciated and I will certainly be using your document as a guide. Unfortunately, when I found this machine, the strips had already been replaced and were quite different from the originals, so I am already starting at the point of having lost the correct posi...
