Re: Chicagoland
Thanks Slot, very bloody useful! It's funny but the photos of messed up machines are usually a lot more helpful because you can see what's going on under the paint etc.

Re: Komon Steve horse race help
Just did a Google search of the name and came up with this interesting bit of info from a 1943 Billboard magazine about high used machine prices in England. komonsteve And I was interested to see a little lower in the list of games the name Pleasure Island, which is the super rare export version of ...

Re: The late Dick Bueschel
Hey Bill, great to hear from you! And you're certainly right about Dick Beuschel, a legend in many ways. Part of the reason I became so enamoured with machines was because of the amazingly interesting articles he wrote that drew me into that world. Would be great to hear some of your own stories abo...

Re: Chicagoland
Hey Slot, that pipe piece is a jukebox extention speaker made by the slot company Keeney about 1939/40 i think. I have a sneaking suspicion it's been tampered with a little or it could be the junior model? Later I found the design patent which shows an added section below what i have that shone ligh...

Re: Chicagoland
Finally got all my US found treasures of last year ( some date back to 2008!) shipped home to Australia and picked them up from customs clearance on Fri. Had to rent this flatbed trailor to handle the load in one trip! Was a hell of a day and even though the crates were emptied and off the trailor b...

Re: Haydon & Urry THE TIVOLI
Great find there! And especially in such lovely orig cond and with so many cards, which are of course normally long gone from most machines. There's a very similiar example shown page 120 of Nic Costa's Automatic Pleasures book, dated c1897. That one has different looking artwork saying the same thi...

Re: Oliver Whales EASY PERM - Missing the arrow...
I've never bothered having any of these re-cast. I just grab a piece of brass sheet the right thickness, lay an original over the top to scribe a pattern and cut out with a small hacksaw. Then a quick clean up with a file and add in the feathers, plus the two holes. Doesn't take very long as such a ...

Re: Got another Allwin Deluxe
I bought this door along with two others, all of which i thought were just standard allwins after a very quick look, and was planning to use them for spare parts. But on closer inspection when it had arrived in aust i noticed the missing parts on the backside and tell tale holes etc. So i cut away t...

I assume these machines were made for operation at the London Playboy club back in the day. Because I can't imagine Hef licencing the name and logo for any other reason?

Re: Supplier of period glass?
Yes, was about to post about this anyway - always strip the mirrors outside and use a mask and gloves! I flake off any rough silver first with a blade. Then paint stripper will remove the back layer of paint used to protect the silver. Sometimes the paint stripper will remove some or most of the sil...

Re: Got another Allwin Deluxe
Third pic down is a Reserve Ball mech photo i posted earlier under another thread about the Seven Mysteries of Allwins, and the two from earlier in this thread to compare. You can clearly see the parts above the ball release that hold and then release the reserve balls. Also many other added levers ...

Re: Supplier of period glass?
And the best thing is the glass is always more scratched on the outside than the inside, just like a machine would be! And worth investing in a top quality glass cutter. After years of good then bad results it turned out it was only the damn cutter that was letting me down! Cost $45 but paid for its...

Re: The Jester
Nice score JP! If this is actually made by Caille there should be CB Co (or the like) stamped on just about every casting. I'm wondering if this is the 1920s German version imported to the USA and just sold by Caille? For a long time the yanks thought the Domino was made by Watling in the USA, but t...

Re: Got another Allwin Deluxe
I don't see any sign of the mounting holes on the two previous machine photos for the reserve mechanism that holds then releases the balls?? Unless the backing tin plate has been totally replaced on both? I have a reserve ball door here myself and it has some parts and some missing from just above t...

Re: Supplier of period glass?
I loathe new glass - as badly as brand new Chinese locks!!! But it's not hard to source cheap period glass for machines. I've been buying vintage mirrors for years from my dump recycling yard at a few dollars each and stripping the silver off once cut to size. I'm really picky and only go for the on...

Re: parts from one machine to another
Scottie, again would help if you showed a pic of your mech. In a perfect world it would be a decently easy swap. Though each of these machines was hand fitted so there will always be some jiggery pokery to make things work right even with the same mech. OW recycled a lot of other peoples machines ov...

Scottie, just post a photo of the internal mech and we'll be able to tell you straight away if it was a reserve ball once or not.

I thought those two shooter machines were just modern fantasy, but BP and Slot both say reproductions, which suggests they were produced previously??

John, I can just imagine the sight at some aviation museum where a curator is scrunching his monocle and shaking his fist yelling ---- "HOOOGGGGAAANNNN!" ---- because of the state of the alloy dashboard fascia on their newly acquired Spitfire/Messerschmitt (or whatever you flew in the war)...

Re: Payramid - Original or Later Version? Your View Please!
Mark , I've owned and restored the early version and also restored the later model for a customer. And both machines work beautifully when tuned up right! So you really can't go wrong wwith either. Though I was fairly partial to the older model as there was a lot of age there.
