Re: Digger project

Heavy things always need to be lifted. No one can ever decide where they should be placed the first time, resulting in moving them around 3 or 4 times. That means we'll always need people to lift heavy things. I'm hoping that I can fully document how one of these digger mechanisms works so that anyo...

Re: Digger project

Thanks for the cabinet plans DD. They're pretty rough with a few errors in there. I'm going to model them up with some changes made and then I'll send you a set back. (in metric :HaHa: )

Re: Digger project

Wow, it looks like there are many variations in trip mechanisms on these diggers. I've seen about 6 of them now. I'm going to have to figure out what will work with my setup. Mine is similar to what I posted above.

Re: Digger project

No worries. When you get there, you get there. I've got plenty of things to occupy me in the meantime. I'm trying to teach myself to use AutoDesk Inventor to model some of these mechanisms. Side note: I got a response from my email the other day to Jim Roller: I wish I could help you but, sadly, I h...

Re: Digger project

Any pictures that you can provide of cabinets with a ruler or tape measure on them for scale will help immensely. I'm in the process of making a proper trip blade as mine didn't have the original. Pictures that Jim Roller sent me years ago: Dragline trip-to-start assembly.jpg Dragline trip shows re-...

Re: Digger project

Back to this project after a few years off... Unfortunately, I've lost my plans for the digger cabinet that I purchased from Jim Roller a few years ago. He no longer has them for sale on his website and I'm hoping he's still around answering emails. If I'm out of luck with him, does anyone have thes...

Re: 3D printing

The one that I have listed above has a layer resolution up to 50 micron. That will leave some very slight ridges, but nothing that some minor sanding can't take out. From there the piece could either be used to make a mold or chromed and used as is. I figure for $200, it's well worth the shot. Any p...

Re: 3D printing

I know that's one of the updates that they're going to be providing hopefully sooner than later. I know that they're trying out different filaments other than the standard ABS and PLA.

Re: 3D printing

I forgot about the 3d scanners. If there was someone that had access to a 3d scanner and was willing, there would be some amazing results. Recreating a lot of these machines would become much easier. Plenty of these machines are quite difficult to come by in the states, much less within driving dist...

3D printing

Topic moved & merged - Site Admin. Has anyone tried using a 3d printer to make parts for a machine that they're building or restoring? I just hopped into a kickstarter for a small 3D printer for only $199USD. I know there's potential to draw up a part and then print out the part to try it and t...

Wow. That is a beautiful machine. I'd love to see any more information about building one posted. I'm guessing since you built 5 of them you made some templates up.

Re: Digger project

I've talked to Jim a few times, although I was looking for a second resource. Jim mentioned that he sold off all of his supplies and inventory and it sounded like he's getting out of the business. I'm in his queue of messages to tend to, although as he said, I'm moving a whole lot faster than he is....

I'm jealous, that looks like a great find!

I'd love to run across something like that in the States.

Re: Digger project

That's what I get for posting while I was at work. Too little information on my part. It's a '60s era carnival digger. The best example that I can find online is this: http://www.pinballrebel.com/game/tonka/tonka.htm Unfortunately it does not have a good image of the mechanism that I'm looking for. ...

Digger project

Hi all- It's been a while and after building an arcade machine I'm now working on a digger. I purchased a mechanism off of ebay that needed some cleanup and fixing. The main spot that needs work is the coin mechanism and the assembly mounts at the two square ears brazed to the traveling shaft below ...

Re: A temporary shift to arcades of the 80s

Ah, i got bumped over to the build forum :) That's fine, I wasn't sure if this kind of build would fit in the penny machines build area. I've still got plans for my Payramid, I haven't given up on it. That's just needs a lot more planning and drawing.

A temporary shift to arcades of the 80s

I decided that I'd build an Arcade Cabinet that's computer powered and has the capability to play every old arcade game out there. Actually you can use it for any game emulator that will run on windows; NES, Sega, Atari, SCUMMVM, Playstation and many others. When all is complete, you'll be able to p...

Me too. A CNC could churn sheets of this out quite easily.
