If not dogs, why not monkeys?

Friends,
I've always heard Brits were quite fond of dogs. Viewing the lack of participation in the "Dog Races" contest, I can only conclude such is not the case. Therefore, let's move up the evolutionary chain.
Below is a picture of a two-player British arcade game. Seen it? Know the name? Is the other tree climber also a monkey? Take it away, Darwin.

Had a very similar game, the other climber was Popeye and it was called manormonk.

Daveslot,

I believe the game to which you refer is pictured below. As you can see, it is similar but not identical. Personally, I prefer your game with the iconic Popeye racing against his simian competitor. I think the missing figure in the game above is another monkey rather than a human.

Yes, I have seen that one. I believe that one started out in life as the one I had in a case that was similar to yours. I think it was recased in the 1990s to make it more saleable for the American market.

That brings back great memories. I played that monkey race game many times at Blackpool in the 1950s. It's one I'd give my eye teeth to own.

If you visit Clive's arcade on the end of Southport pier you can still play an original monkey race game (or you could 2 years ago when I was there).

While trying to find a picture of the original Manormonk I found a couple more. One much nicer and a one that looks like jinglie's and john peterson's.
