Look what I found tucked away - Matrimonial Bureau

Post by classicgambler »

Look what I found tucked away in a very dark corner. I have had a look in the Resources to see if there are cards that can be printed off for it but nothing. Can anyone shed any light on this machine?
Thanks.

The glass says "Arcyle Auto Co." which is not a company referenced in Braithwaite's book. The Matrimonial Bureau is a teller attributed to BM Co. and the bottom of the fortune card says the same.

I vote for a British Manufacturing Company fortune teller, probably from the late 20's or early 30's by the style of the signage.

I'd be inclined to stick with Argyle. The case has been painted at some point in its history (wouldn't have started out like that) and the fancy bits stuck on. The various different cards (or at least, most of them) are still available from Clive Baker.

So how would this have looked originally colour-wise?

Take a look at this image of a British Beauties Bureau in the Museum.

I wish I had the name tags on the Milestones machine - they fit the cards in my machine perfectly. :-(

I think that case would not be too hard to return to original. I'd love to have a go - it would look great. The add ons seem to be original as they clearly appear on other versions.
