Barrett Test Your Twist
Re: Barrett Test Your Twist
Thanks Jingle just looked it up. With a little research I see that much of the original pier was destroyed in 1881, and the replacement was opened in 1887, which is likely that's why the card is dated as such. My first thought was a simple typo and the card was actually dated 1897. I've also seen serial numbers on things that correspond with years and that can throw you off.
"The Ventnor Pier & Esplanade Co. was formed in 1870 and a new 478 foot pier was completed in 1873. A landing stage was added in 1881 but this was destroyed, along with 40 foot of pier-neck, by storms later the same year. A 650 foot, £12,000 replacement pier was opened on 19th July 1887. A £980 pavilion was added in 1906."
