Nestles Vend "n" Weigh
Nestles Vend "n" Weigh
Well, 5am, still sitting at my computer researching Patents and heading down a lot of dead ends. But a few scores. Just stumbled onto this very unusual vending machine that I've never seen or heard of before! Sign states 1932 produced by Geo Salter for Nestles.
Re: Nestles Vend "n" Weigh
Hi Gw, this machine is in the STEAM Museum in Swindon, Wiltshire, home of the Great Western Railway Works.
Salters were established in 1760 in Bilston, West Midlands, by a Richard Salter who was a springmaker. His nephew George Salter was in the business in 1825 when it was known as George Salter & Co with a large factory in West Bromwich.
Salters are still around today making kitchen scales and bathroom scales but are part of the US based HoMedics group.
There is another set of coin-op step-on scales in the museum but not sure of the maker, a small number of slot machines have been loaned to the museum by Clive Baker and I wonder whether Clive owns either of these two?

I dont think a scale that dispensed a bar of chocolate would go down well in a more health conscious modern world, well in the US perhaps where the professional eaters abound

Just shows that in the USA you can have your cake and eat it too, over and over again from the looks of Dearie.
