Cross the Bar, or Dropem - early Brit Cigar trade stimulator

Post by gameswat »

This machine turned up for a sale recently in the states. Obviously quite an early piece. Interesting there are two coin entries, one to drop the coin vertically, the other to fire it horizontally. Has since gone to a European collection.

Someone asked me about the unusual drawer set up. The top drawer would be to remove missed or lost coins. While the bottom is for winners. so the operator could figure out how many cigars had been given away. The lever on the left side is to clear the winning viewing window, once a cigar has been handed over.

This reminds me very much of the cigar-paying Automatic Bowling Alley, which appears to be of a similar period.
