Kingsway "Sweet & Sour"
This, rather nice, Kingsway arrived today, sold as "locked, no key, not working". After a few mins with the drill the door opened to reveal more than 20 coins blocking the coin entry to coin tube area and six blocking the payout slides, all removed and now....perfect working order. Although I will totally strip it down to remove the mass of oxidised grease inside.

What a shame to have such a nice escalator and it's hidden behind the door.

The escalator is not connected and, I think, most likley went when the 2p conversion was done as it has the standard Aristo blank over the window. The blockage was caused well below the escalator area and coins pass freely through. It's a nice machine with good chrome, good lights and no damage to the artwork. It's going to clean up nice. Quite a slide setup with the JP paying 25 coins.
Re: Kingsway "Sweet & Sour"
Yes these were usually butchered, but are rare working. Usually the components on the rear are removed so no rotation. The mech may have come from another machine as the front is a true Kingsway type or Grosvenor. Often you will see earlier Nevada fronts with the offset window where the rotary escalator oils have been.

Having dismantled, serviced and re built the mech I turned my attention to the case. Another lock to drill out and the cash draw came free. In the cash draw 50 2p coins and a large plastic fork(?) UNDER the cash draw another 300 2p coins making the total for coins spread around the machine almost 500 coins !! What a pity it wasn't on £1 coins.

Re: Kingsway "Sweet & Sour"
All finished now and working very much as it it did new. Really looks the part lit up. Just waiting for one new lock for the cash draw. Always so easy to work on these machines, screws easy to get at, metalwork on the front easy to remove and clean, once cleaned the mechs work so crisp and sharp, you just know they will be pretty much trouble free as long as you do min service on them.
Re: Kingsway "Sweet & Sour"
Yes, as long as chrome is good, easy to clean up. This obviously was converted to 2p after coin change, with the huge what looks to be plastic slides and coin tube. Never worked out whether these Sweet and Sours were original factory machines and a lot I have seen have the symbols stuck on the reels. There was one at the last elephant auction on 1p.

Re: Kingsway "Sweet & Sour"
Strangely for such an obscure theme it crops up in at least three styles and in several different cases (it's also unusual of course because it pays on Lemons). The one at EH was the different art work and full payout type. Big one says it's an "Aristocrat Esprit" - never heard of that model.
