British 'Hair Colour' fortune teller

Post by bob »

Topic split from Modern coin operated stereo viewers Site Admin.

This delivered a card taken from a drawer based on the person's hair colour as per the doll's heads on display in the cabinet. It came up for sale at an auction held as part of a doll collectors fair here in Melbourne in the 1980s.
Those antique doll collectors valued it at much more than I could afford to pay and it went for many thousands of dollars, a fortune then, and so sadly I missed out.

Fascinating machine. I don't suppose you know what was printed on the little enamel badge.

A clever idea, except that it restricts its likely clientele to 50%.

Or fewer than 50% (grey-haired, white-haired and bald women not catered for).
I've put this machine in the Museum under your name Bob.
Interesting to compare with the much plainer Your Character from the Colour of your Hair
