Another mixture, not sure this is a Sheerline, but so many mixes are coming up I am wondering if the rules I set on these machines in the past is cod’s wallop, eg Sheerline should be lift up, not hinged on the left......

And this is the reason I have given up collecting amusement machines and now collect clocks, time for a change. I can now profess my lack of knowledge on another topic

So here is a proper Sheerline, with uplifting door as they should be. The doors are actually about half an inch longer than Starlites and Arcadians and I believe these came first timeline wise.

Managed to get this 4 reeler which was seized, missing bits and cabinet in poor state. Managed to get running sweet and tidied cabinet although not fully restored. The lock mechanism is unusual on this and cannot decide if a modification or some early variant and on the inside looks very much part of it.

Anyway another one for the collection

That's nice TF, amazing how these things crop up isn't it?

I've just spent a day perfecting a very nice Mills Hi-top that was almost spot on. Just lacked wire reel brakes, cash box door and lock and inside paperwork. It's nice when you can just do the finishing touches and put your own stamp on a machine.


I thought I saw some 1/- denominators in Derby on Sunday.

I don't think after all this time it matters too much about the 'badge' to the general Joe public who just want to have a bandit in the house as a feature. I've got one of these machines too in need of repair, it's missing its Arcadian badge but I'd happily stick a Sheerline badge on it rather than having nothing on the front and three holes showing for the badge pegs; make it look nice and job done. It's a bit like the later Aristocrats, the Arcadian versus Olympic. I have an Olympic but if an Arcadian flash comes up I will swap it as it allows for the lighting to shine through as the Olympic badge doesn't do that, it's got a metal back. For purists, yes, certainly seek out the right badges etc. but make do with what's available at the time. I'm sure this is what the operators did, different belly glasses, colour schemes etc.

As a youth working in my Uncle's arcade on Paignton sea front I recall the two of us levering an Aristocrat mech into a Sega cabinet just to get it earning. Badges?

Seriously though some of us do care on the models made by companies and what they should look like. I happen to like Aristocrats and this is why I will point out these things. For me it is important to obtain correct machines for my collection; that is the way it is and will not change. For those who don’t care if Mickey Mouse is painted on the front of their machine, that is their choice. I reckon a lot of serious collectors are no different to me.

I know sometimes I leave excellent Kingsway/Nevada/Governor badges on a front door even if they're not the correct badge for the model, but one of the other options, as in trying to prise it off I may well just damage an otherwise excellent example of an original badge.

I'll leave it on and if the buyer is not bothered and happy that it's in great condition (and not many are) then it can just stay on. There are other options for a buyer who must have the correct model badge.
