Telly-Go-Round at Herne Bay
I came across this coin opp charity collecting machine on the promenade at Herne Bay, Kent, last weekend.
Originally designed and built by the members of the Herne Bay Rotary Club in 1967 this is the third major rebuild completed in 1983 with minor revamps along the way. Any denomination of coin will run the machine and in recent times over a summer it is estimated that 350,000 coins are dropped into the slot raising around £4,000 for charity.
You can read more about it here http://www.rotary-ribi.org/clubs/page.p ... ClubID=721
I would love to have a look inside it.

How wonderful.
The design is very clever, encouraging more donation coins to be inserted to open more (or different doors) to reveal current popular TV characters, and the ability to constantly update the characters behind the doors keeps the whole thing fresh for different generations.
They should be very proud of what has been achieved, and so much more fun than just standing there with collection boxes.

I like it so much! Especially, the moment, when the kid is so happy!
