Hi everyone,

First post! Just came across this old Swedish ball catcher arcade that I would like some more information about. It says "JULES" on the top but not sure if that's the manufacturer? Any idea what this arcade is worth?

Thanks!

Hello and welcome,

I am not an expert on early catchers, but owned a few. This looks like it was once a clown catcher, as the wire is still present below the catching part that would have supported the clown. I also wonder if the coin cup is a later modification, maybe if original got broke. Hinges may have been replaced as well for larger type, you can see the position of the originals.

Are there any stamps on the sides of the machine as it maybe by Pessers Moody Wraith and Gurr and been changed for Swedish market as paperwork looks old. Very early machines, around 1910 onwards...also not have the token chute, which some seem to lack. Cannot workout what is at the bottom of the play field above the pay cup, looks like some kind of dial !PUZZLED!

I am sure someone will guide further

Yes, looks like it was either a British or Jentzsch & Meerz Clown. The original token payout has been altered.

Hi all,

I actually just bought this machine and am tempted to restore it. I has had quite a rough life so it will take a bit of effort.
The only stamp of sorts is "JULES" and the number "45". As of now it is a bit of an enigma, no idea of age or maker. I have not found anything similar on internet.

If anyone has more on this machine I would be very grateful. Especially pictures etc of the mechanism. Anything similar might be very helpful as well.

Regards
Robert

See comments above on potential age and makers. Also follow the link in thread above with pages of pictures and information on catcher machines, internal of one copied below, is yours the same...

Still want to know what that dial is in the bottom of the play field of your machine and highlighted below. Also see the wire that would have propped the clown up. What does the text translate to?

Welcome by the way !!THUMBSX2!!

Thank you!
I was also wondering about that dial in the lower end, have not seen it in any other Clown machine.

That dial is not readily visible from the inside, it is behind a tin plate. I will pull it all apart soon for cleaning and the mechanism will show itself then.

That 'dial' looks like a payout wheel.
Perhaps the whole bottom compartment was filled with tokens?

I still haven't dissected this machine, it is still waiting for some TLC.
