Stupid Boy

Enter the Honourable Judge's favourite tavern for a dram of Tittle Tattle. There's an ancient bandit in the corner, but I forget his name...

Ye,he invested in video that will never be an antique
All made of chip board
And will constantly be mooching for parts :dammit:
15 years ago I was messing with this stuff
And constantly had problems with them
,,stick with the vintage stuff is best

I actually have 120 jamma boards in my loft
7 big boxes,,,that I bet when plugged in I will only have
Half of them to play with,,
They maybe for sale !!HIDING!!

The problem with Jamma boards or similar are that they all look the same from the outside, working or completely fried! Unless you actually plugged them into a cabinet with Jamma edge connector (exactly on the right contacts and not slightly overlapping) before you bought them, you could have just a pile of scrap already.

Even if they were working before putting them in the loft, slight hairline cracks on soldered pins or just dry joints will make them not work,. Theres a lot to be said for mechanical machines and actually being able to see why something isnt working

I know there are people out there who can fix these tho
If they crash,,,I used to take boards to a big Asian guy in manchester
About 7 ft tall ,,he talks like he lives in a manor when on the phone
Really posh,,private education of course,,this guy had a great machine
You plugged in the board and it came on the screen were the problem was and how to fix it
It was like a small organ / key board shape if I remember
He charged 40 pound a repair,,I remember he had a warehouse
Full of the rarest video and pinball machines
,,going back nr 15 years. Anyone know or remember him
Forgot is name

Don't know him, but similar repairs in Blackburn at that time. All that has gone now, even original Defender and Space Invader machines that commanded prices in excess of 1500 pounds for a brief period in the late '90s and all the Street Fighter variations at that time for arcade play are gone now overtaken by xbox and the like.

I remember operating two original Space Invaders, big upright cabinets, black and white monitor with colour overlay strips over the screen working on the old big 10p coin and having to empty the tin boxes every night because they were full!
