Thinking of doing a video ......
Dear Collected, Collective of Collectors..........
Mainly due to a lack of incoming work and a scandalous number of project machines cluttering up the Fire Exits it was decided for me I should restore another one. "It'll keep you off the streets and stop you worrying The Straights."
I chose a rather nice looking (from the outside) Beromat.
Many shy away from these GÜNTER WULFF machines for lots of reasons.
Nasty Pot Metal, easy to damage, difficult to mend.
Spare parts are random.
Not sexy enough to look at or display
Mechanisms that are nothing like the logical sameness of American three reelers.
Unlike USA bandits which behave fine with oodles of play and slackness clattering around between their moving parts, GÜNTER WULFF bandits are precision engineered in comparison. Consequently setting them up can be ... and often fiddling with one bit affects something seemingly unrelated at the other end. Excellent fun
I however have always really liked them, they stick in my childhood memory as clearly as my best school friend, good old what's his name.
As I pried open this particular one, wondering which of the many issues and problems I've stumbled over in the past would present themselves, I was overjoyed to note it had the lot!
Slow spinning reels, eratic cycle, wrong speed, reel stops not engaging, random payouts, flint worn out, slack elastic and light faded sellotape.
It's a mess, the more I looked the more I didn't find that was ok. It's a text book example of most things that can go wrong. As I'll be tackling most of the questions we've had over the years about these and they're often the machines Newbies first acquire it occurred to me to record what I have to do to it. It might help others.
As I don't have a video camera I first thought of tracing paper then converting it into a flick-book for animation.
However as I'm 59 this year I might run out of time.
I've since discovered that my SLRD camera can do joined up pictures so am going to have a go at a video. The one I'd really like to attempt is a re-make of Debbie Does Dallas, I've never gotten over it and my mental image is quite different to most others when I hear the name Bambi.
Your thoughts?
BP
PS If you plump for Triple D over GÜNTER WULFF don't do so unless you can personally introduce me to suitable cast members, I'll play The Schoolmaster.

Re: Thinking of doing a video ......
A great idea,you might start a crazy
I too saw "Debbie dose Dallas" but all I can remember is that the actress recovered but the vicar had to have his leg off and I think the camel lived on for some years making the occasional TV add
It's surprising the quality of very cheap camcorders. At Xmas I asked for and was given a cheap camcorder. I wanted it so I could video problems I have with machines then post so you lot can sort it out. The camera I got cost less than £15, works perfectly and even connects (via your pc) directly to youporn.com, no sorry that was another forum, I mean youtube.com.
Anyway a good investment for the outlay I think

I shall look forward to this with great interest, BP. I fear I will need it!
I have a Novomat in my workshop that needs bringing back to life. The case is in a bit of a sorry state, with the back needing repair (delaminating, of course). The case generally needs a good clean and repaint (I believe it may have been Mr Coppin who has some considerable success with with the ronseal paint 'n grain product and I plan to try the same) . The reel strips are poor and I have a new set to install. The mechanism actually works quite well (although there is an intermittent fault when the handle does not 'catch' when pulled) and I am looking forward to cleaning the old crap off and treating it with nice new oil. Hopefully, at some future point in time, it will grace a special place on my wall and enjoy being used again.
It goes without saying that I shall now do nothing with it until your Beromat video has gone on general release! Also until the weather improves. It is blimming cold out there.

Windows Live Movie Maker software is pretty good and straightforward to use, Its a free download and I find it easier than the old Live Moviemaker.
If you operate the camera on max definition and stick it on YouTube in HD mode it can take an age to process, save and upload though!
If you monetise it on YouTube we all promise to endure the ads at the beginning and make you a fortune!

I believe I may still have somewhere a VHS copy of "Debbie Does Dallas", if you need to review it for reference purposes. Also something called "The Green Door".

Hi Jeremy
I know she will kill me for asking,
but is Sally going to be in your new video?
And I know you have a pinball machine,
so this is my idea for a title.
Sorry Sally only joking

I'll keep my socks on so I'll have somewhere to put my screwdriver.
Sally regularly asks me what's happening in The World of Pennymachines, naturally I usually tell her we're studying entertainment in brothels and the such, as she'd not believe me if I told her the truth .......slotalot wrote:Hi Jeremy
