George Bryan 1921-2013

Post by pennymachines »

Bryans Fan informs me that George Bryan, founder of the Drayton Manor Theme Park in Tamworth, died Friday September 20th.
Son of William Edward (founder of Bryans Automatic Works) and brother of Jim, who took over the works, George also "manufactured penny arcade machines with his father... who was known as ‘King of the Penny Arcade’."
Tamworth Herald wrote:During the Second World War, George Bryan served with Kegworth Local Defence Volunteers, Royal Warwickshire Regiment, Royal Army Ordnance Corp and the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers. He met his wife, Vera Cartilidge, in May 1942. Vera’s family owned California in England pleasure park, which was the inspiration behind Drayton Manor. The couple married in December of that year.
