I don't remember playing card symbols but I did read World's Fair newspaper and Aristocrat had the "Quadreel" advertised. The date was around Easter 1974. In those days I lived on the Isle of Wight and the Ryde Esplanade was full of arcades. There were (I think) only 2 casinos on the whole island but plenty of social clubs. A few months later, the arrival of the 5 reel "Quintette" machine that was worded in French and 5 in a row would "paie 5000 pieces" but I never actually saw such a machine. The 4 symbol win would pay each way and the 3 symbol win would pay on reels 1, 2, 3 or 2, 3, 4 or 3, 4, 5.
