Clear rough service filament bulbs

Post by aristomatic »

Clearing out some cabinets yesterday there was a small box full of new old stock lamps/bulbs made by Thorn stamped 25watt 200-250volt vacuum rough service clear glass with a 2 story type filament inside. They are bayonet fitting about two and half inches long in total. I had a google but couldn't find too much. Anyone know what these were made for or the industry they were used in?
Thanks in advance.

I'll try to get a picture!

Especially resistant to vibration - so for use in machinery shops etc, and perfect for arcade machines!

These bulbs were supplied to the motor trade for head lamps.

What, 200 -250v, 2 and a half inches long? Are you sure Chris? Exactly what sort of 'motor' would have used them?

Chris wrote "lead lamps" and I changed it to "head lamps" 'cause I guessed it was a typo.
Are 'lead lamps' a thing? :!?!:

Well here's a copy and paste of a response on a lighting forum that I asked for
help in understanding the useage of these particular bulbs,

Appears to be the 25w Rough Service (reinforced filament construction) version too. Good find! Often used as a 'headlight' in upright vacuum cleaners of the 60s and 70s. I Once had a Hoover branded GEC 25w SBC pygmy!

also used generally as small pygmy bulbs in fridges in ovens were other replies
