Clever government move
What a well thought out move by H.M.Treasury, they are re introducing the threepenny bit and calling it the new £1 coin and it will buy the same value goods as the threepenny bit did in 1960
Re: Clever government move
I read your post, Paul, and got a slap from the wife when I mentioned it had been a while since I got my hands on a couple of thrupenny bits. I guess she is not one for pre-decimal coins.
Re: Clever government move
The new £ coin is the same thickness as old 3d but slightly smaller in diameter (point to point) only by 1.6mm, so all those old slots taking thrup'ny bits will now be able to accept the new £ coin, bringing them back into the 21st century.
Not sure I would like to load up a coin chute with £30 worth of coins though.

Re: Clever government move
I already recommended this idea to the member restoring the bell fruit three penny supreme I re built the belly glass for.
I rather like the idea of filling it with £1, would certainly give it that old thrill to play you got as a kid trying to win a shilling.
If, as you say, the coins are that alike it raises the point, could you use an old 3d in a new £1 machine like a parking ticket machine?

Interesting point coppinpr, but what is more interesting is that the coin appears to have been designed by our very own JP (see image, just under Queenies neck)................ You kept that quiet Jerry
Did you know that HM Lizy, is also the 'Duke of Lancaster' !
